World Shut Your Mouth was a hidden camera television series starring Dom Joly that ran on Friday nights in 2005 on BBC One. Dom Joly made his name on the similar series Trigger Happy TV on Channel 4, and it was from its great success that he was hired by the BBC to produce new programming. His first effort was an unsuccessful spoof chat show named This Is Dom Joly. The lack of success in conventional comedy prompted him to go back to his hidden camera roots and started to create a new series which was very similar to Trigger Happy TV, with short stunts overlaid with a soundtrack. He was the main participant in these stunts. As with his previous work, the programme had an emphasis on surrealism, with sketches such as a spying gnome and nerds taunting skaters and him dressing up in aluminium foil like a superhero, being a partner of a traffic warden who was technically ignoring him. The main difference between Trigger Happy TV and World Shut Your Mouth was the scope of the show. Where Trigger Happy TV took place in various places around the United Kingdom, the larger budget of World Shut Your Mouth allowed for international travel and filming, and many of the stunts took place at, or near, major international landmarks.

World Shut Your Mouth Audience Reviews

Dorathen Better Late Then Never
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
JoshuaUK From the man who brought us "Trigger Happy TV" the hidden camera show broadcast on channel for in the late 90's returns in a fantastic way with the his hidden camera show "World Shut Your Mouth" Broadcast by the BBC.This is a fantastic hidden camera show, much better than any other currently being offered on English and American TV. "World Shut Your Mouth" IS "trigger happy TV", the great gags and comedy moments are still there it just has a much bigger budget which helps to make the show much better. In short, Dom Joly returns with a Trihump in this brilliant series. Like Trigger Happy....only better!!
Alex Hosking OK, so the night this is on is the first time I hear about its existence, because the BBC obviously didn't really advertise it that much, so I thought that I'll give it a look, but it will never be as funny as the great Trigger Happy TV. Surly he has done everything funny he can? So I started to watch the first episode and for the first couple of minutes it wasn't that funny, then Metal man from the metal institution came onto my screen followed by Mr 77 year old, honking a horn shouting 'its my birthday' and really screaming at chavs with skateboards in the street 'What are you? Crips!!!'. I have to admit its been a long time since I laughed that much. Maybe he is taking ideas from other people suggestions or maybe the man is a genius, either way the BBC obviously didn't realize what they had with this otherwise they would of promoted it more.
