A bit overrated, but still an amazing film

It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

I was really wanted to like documentary, however I found it to be so flawed that I couldn't even finish it. I am not one to stop watching something as I generally like to see things through. Especially since I had already made it halfway through, which totals 3 hours. However, I felt that I had learned so little about anything actually going on that the best half was unlikely to improve much. They feel the need to show you several different people saying the same thing ultimately getting you nowhere. On the other hand other things are glossed over. I do not understand the love for this show. Somehow they made a cult, something that should be very interesting, boring. So disappointing.

While it claims to be a documentary, this is a typically, formula American move... It could very well be a tacky, disjointed 'War Of The Worlds 2'.Chapter 1 - The Alien Invasion.2 - The Aliens Were Evil.3 - The Aliens Had Guns.4 - The Aliens Had Labs.5 - The Aliens Imploded.6 - The Underdog Americans Humiliated & Kicked Out The Aliens. And lived happily ever after.Guess what, looks like the Trumps have always been there. There's zero attempt at getting even a bit of Osho. That he encouraged people to come, pick up what they could, & go live in the world. Least did he want them to stay on forever at any ashram. And this, I picked up just from reading him after he was no more. It's just 'OMG, they laughed. They had sex (!!!). They had wealth. They must be doing drugs (zero proof or investigation). Etc etc...And hey, no mention of that guy who bombed the Rajneesh hotel...? Is he a hero in Antelope...?

It is fascinating! The idea that something that started from such a spiritual and loving place became so corrupt and violent!!!

Whilst I enjoyed this very well made documentary I found it disingenuous. It barely touches on either the huge financial fraud that was perpetrated at its core nor does it try to explain what it was that made the guru so hypnotic and find it so easy to cast a spell over so many people. Throughout the series he appears to be virtually comatose and inanimate and when he finall6 does speak it's as if he was serving behind the counter in your local corner shop. The story itself is the familiar cult tale blending the Beatles Yogi with a David Koresh or Jonestown scenario of homicidal maniacs armed to the teeth. They seemed a hair breadth away from gunning people down. But it must be recognised that the majority of the cultists seemed to have good intentions. The biggest unanswered question is why the US authorities after spending so much on capturing the guru then allowed him to leave Scot free. Surely a token sentence was apt? The production values however are beyond reproach.
