lightupyrday Not only is it a speculative, hyped up and overacted pile of nonsense from would be experts, it is inaccurate and boring. The last episode I watched made reference to an Air New Zealand DC10 that crashed in Antarctica killing all on board. These 'experts' laid the blame squarely on the Pilots who encountered 'whiteout' conditions, which are common in areas with snow and ice. The fact is, most the problem was created by wrong data entry into their flight computer which pointed them directly at Mt Erebus. The pilots were partly to blame for descending below the minimium altitude when they were a little unsure of their surroundings. They did have a guide on the Flightdeck who had been on previous scenic flights and that may have lulled them into a false sense of security. The crash was a direct result of bad data entry, complicated by pilots unfamiliarity with the landscape. However, please 'What on Earth' get your facts right before slating a dead-man! TheMachinistSleeps ****** Contains mild spoilers about one segment of one episode that wasn't good anyway - don't worry about it ******Even after reading all of the other overwhelmingly negative reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I watched S04E14 - "Cannibals in the Ghost City". The crew here at What on Earth saw the ruins of a bunch of stone buildings in Africa somewhere, and proceeded to spin a tale from there. After some short and most likely scripted interviews with "locals", an alleged archeologist goes to visit the ruins - her mind is full of wonder as she tries to make something out of everything.She sees what appear to be defensive holes purposely crafted in to the wall. The kind of holes you'd see on the wall of a fort - firing positions or just simple peep holes: "Oh, there are holes in this wall! Almost as if they were terrified of something out there! What could have made them so frightened?!?!?"This is the reaction of an alleged archeologist seeing holes in an old stone wall. Next, she finds a single piece of coral on top of one piece of the ruined stone wall. She picks it up and says that the ruins are made out of coral, at the same time we are looking at an obviously stone wall in high definition quality. It's unmistakably a stone wall with one piece of coral on it, but she is away in her own little fantasy world.The very first possibility they raised in this "documentary" for why this bunch of stone buildings was abandoned: evil spirits. Djinn, to be precise, which are "aligned with Satan", as we're told by some other expert. Then, yet another expert tells us that we "really don't want to mess with them" in reference to these Satanic spirits. As opposed to the Satanic spirits that you really do want to mess with, I guess.Everyone in the cast is so excruciatingly credulous about everything presented to them. There are no bad ideas to be found here, apparently. Every opinion is just as valid as the next, and everything spooky or supernatural is worthy of a lengthy discussion accompanied by cheesy animations. It's a bit like listening to a young child talk about complicated issues - you just don't have the heart to tell them that's not how it works, and you also find their naivety somewhat adorable.Next possibility after evil spirits: an invading cannibal army. Our experts quickly conclude: "There is no evidence of this."What about a plague or harmful weather conditions? "These are just theories," they say without any further speculation.Yes, this is how quickly they dismissed those two possibilities, about 30 seconds each, after spending about 10 minutes discussing whether Satanic spirits drove out the inhabitants.And that's the end of that whole segment on the stone ruins in Africa. It probably wasn't a plague or weather conditions, and there's no evidence of a cannibal army, but we're keeping an open mind about those evil spirits (although we're still not going to mess with them). There are no other possibilities mentioned. No facts are presented after all of this build-up. Moving on to some other nonsense now with just over half an hour left... but they're moving on without me. I couldn't finish one episode.My recommendation: avoid this series like it's a plague of Satanic cannibals in a blizzard.

Huruhara Davidson I think all the "scientists" are hired actors. Used to be 1 of my favourite series in Discovery Science, but at 1 point when I realised that the "experts" are contradicting themselves (1st they present a theory, then another, then eventually the very same "expert" is the 1 who explains the real cause of the said phenomenon) that is when I thought that these are all staged.

jjgsports At first I was super excited to see the show thinking hey maybe they will have cool top secret things that we don't really know. It turns out they just show really stupid things with increasingly stupid reasons for why its there. Not only that but they have fake scientists that take forever to get to the point and if that weren't bad enough, they jam the EXACT SAME content into "new"episodes. It's abysmal that they can even get away with calling them new episodes. Such a shame that they fail miserably at what could be a good show. Just wiki search weird Google map photos and you will get to the point faster and get better answers than this show will give you.
