I have been a big fan of Cyanide and Happiness for a couple years now. The comics are still as funny as ever, the animated shorts that preceded this show were funny, so when they came out with a Kickstarter to fund a series of twelve-minute episodes I was on board and donated a couple bucks. But now I really wish I hadn't, because they seem to have used half their good jokes on the shorts, give the other half to the comics, and leave the show with all the cutting room scraps. Sadly, barely any of the scraps are funny at all.The skits seem to have two outcomes most of the time: The joke is present, but just not funny (like the bit with the guy who wants his girlfriend to sleep in a hot dog shaped bed), or nowhere to be found. Each episode closes with a "main sketch" that goes on for most of the episode's length, but these always seem to be the least funny sketches that end up overstaying their welcome and have no punchline to make up for it. For example, the sketch with the machines that help squeeze condiments out of their bottles goes on forever and ends up with a humorless Iron Giant reference. They didn't try to do anything funny with the reference, they just had the machines turn into giant robots just for the sake of resembling The Iron Giant. It's not all technically bad. The animation is a noticeable improvement from the pre-Kickstarter shorts, the voice acting and music are fine, and there are some sketches, albeit few and far between, that are actually funny (such as the insect/human role reversal jokes in the first episode), but for the vast majority of the time, the writing is just painfully dull. Like I said, the comics are still funny, the shorts were funny, but stick with those because this show is a waste of time.
