Info

Vernon Brownmule, aka "Burnin' Vernon," is a scandal-ridden, washed-up, one-hit-wonder who was kicked out of country music, only to emerge 20 years later as the second best Elvis impersonator around. After crashing into an old country church sign during a drunken bender, he is arrested and sentenced to return and serve as the church's handyman as part of his parole. Along the way, he pretends to be the congregation's new minister and reconnects with a former one-night-stand, when he learns he has a 15-year-old daughter he's never met.

Still the King Audience Reviews

StunnaKrypto Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Lachlan Coulson This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
tommar-97970 I love Billy Ray and Elvis, so it was exciting to watch Still the King. At first. The episode on Aug. 14th mad be mad!! I never in my life thought I would hear such language come from Bully's mouth. I didn't even watch the entire show. And..I deleted it from my recordings list.I see no reason Vernon could not have gone on his drunken stupor without all the bad language.I am a woman in my 70s, and if the producers are trying to get and keep a younger audience, well I guess they have succeeded. I doubt if I am the only person in my age group to feel this way...such a shame, because I really was enjoying the show!
jpostal I will be brief I am assuming that Billy Ray Cyrus is a pretty smart guy. He navigated Hanna Montana and what happened with Achy Breaky Heat appears to be in no way his navigation. As far as I know he did not write the song. Also though it might be a rumor here in Tennessee is is said that he was willing to give up his record contract if he could not record with the band he came to town with. There is a certain form of insanity that takes the form of musicians spending years slogging it out in road houses and honkytonks knowing on some level if a break ever comes they will be immediately replaced with Nashville Cats. This is a certainty if your lead singer is female. So I have to think it is very deliberate that Cyrus and crew are directly channeling Dukes of Hazard and various Burt Reynolds vehicles, so to speak. If I am wrong this show is idiotic but if I am right it is brilliant. I am hopeful so if I am correct and someone from the show reads this just give some screen time to a pair of Daisy Dukes and I will understand.
naylor_janet I have to admit, I like Billy Ray Cyrus, actually as an actor more than a singer. He was in a show a few years back, Doc, and he was really good! So I wanted to check him out in Still the King, and have laughed my butt off. The off the wall comedy is light and entertaining. The language is PG at the most, and is really clean for a family to watch. The story-line has several directions, but the writers keep each character focused and equally entertaining, and I look forward to each episode. The actors/actresses in this show are mostly new to me except for Billy Ray, but casting did a bang up job in choosing the characters for their parts. Congratulations Billy Ray for a hit in my book!
pamnron First, let me say: I am not a fan of Billy Ray Cyrus (nor his nasty daughter!). I've never watched any prior movie, TV series, etc., with him in it. Just wasn't interested. But somehow this story line sounded like fun and it was worth just checking out. Watched it on Amazon Prime today. Honestly, I have to admit: it's really fun. What I liked best about the humor is it didn't try so hard to make you laugh. Yet, it didn't bog down just being silly. Some clichés, some camp, even pathos- -- but totally enjoyable! The actors are all well cast for their roles. The running "narrative" keeps things lively (think: Jane the Virgin)....hope it continues throughout.
