The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

I love the whole concept and everything! How you portray mermaids as predators, rather than the stereotypic beautiful maidens of the sea, I also love the fact that you hand movements to represent certain words, it reminds me a lot of sign language which is used and expressed beautifully, the one fact that I dislike is Donna being killed off right when she started to accept Ryn living on land with humans.

So, this show isn't perfect but it isn't really bad either. In fact, it's quite intriguing cause, well, what mythical creature wouldn't be? Eline Powell, the lead actress, truly gives a stellar performance. The other cast members are fine too, but we can't be too critical since they're only trying to make do with the 'meh' script and writing they were handed which I think is the downside of this show. Truly hope it gets better cause this is indeed a brilliant idea executed.

A lot of reviewers have nay-said this as just a made-for-TV ripoff of the Twilight films. But, using mermaids in lieu of vampires. Well, personally, I found that to be a refreshing change of pace, seeing as how I stopped watching vampire-oriented series after Season 1 of VAMPIRE DIARIES!* Alex Roe is convincing as Ben Pownell (eco-friendly son of the local seafood magnate). And Ms. Fokingbola is equally credible as his Haida Indian girlfriend and fellow marine biologist. But, Eline Powell, of course, almost literally steals the show as Ryn. A mermaid who--as the ultimate fish out of water--comes to the Pacific Northwest town of Bristol Cove, Washington, looking for her missing older sister (played by Ms. Mlombo), who was accidentally netted by the good ship North Star up near Alaska...and flown off with by the U.S. Navy. The premise is an intriguing one. And the interactions between all the protagonists are done with the utmost emotional plausibility. Even so, there are times when the soap opera elements overpower the suspense of each episode. Which is most definitely _not_ a good thing! Because it's during those moments that one wishes the fast-forward function had _not_ been disabled on one's remote control. Still, I will concede this much. The science aspect of this particular science fiction drama is well researched with respect to how music can affect one's emotions. The siren song of the mermaids apparently having the same effect on the pleasure center of the human brain as any man-made drug! Sort of a tranquilizing version of the bio-sonic zap that dolphins give to schools of fish that they're hunting. Yet, all that being said, I will reluctantly have to admit that I think this show is destined to be just as big a one-season wonder as THRESHOLD, SURFACE, and INVASION. All three of those series premiered the same year as LOST (2005). All three of the former were better written and acted than the latter (as far as I'm permanently concerned). And, yet, all three of the former were cancelled instead of being renewed. High quality on a medium budget just doesn't seem to matter anymore. Just high quantities of consistent viewership, right from the get-go.*Remember: I'm not shouting. I still just prefer capitalizing movie and TV show titles.

I love the idea of this show. Half of the main characters have decent acting, but the supporting characters have very poor acting. Plus the graphics are horrible. I had originally rated it 5, but as I kept watching the story got a bit interesting.
