Shaq Vs. is an American reality television show produced for ABC by Dick Clark Productions and Media Rights Capital starring American basketball star Shaquille O'Neal. It began airing on August 18, 2009. Shaquille O'Neal claims to be "the greatest athlete" and challenged numerous top athletes in their own sports. The Washington Post has pointed out similarities to Shaq Vs. and Todd Gallagher's book "Andy Roddick Beat Me With a Frying Pan" saying the book and the show have "precisely the same premise" and that a TV show based on the book Gallagher was trying to sell was "the exact same show." TMZ later reported that Gallagher received a half-a-million dollar settlement. Gallagher's name appears in the credits of season 2 as a producer. The Arizona Republic reported that in early 2008 Steve Nash, a former teammate of O'Neal's, had mentioned to O'Neal a reality show he was pursuing that would feature Nash taking on professional athletes in their own sport. O'Neal said Nash's idea was based on training with other athletes, not competing against them. Nash would not confirm the Republic's story and said, "We collaborated on parts of the show." Nash is an executive producer of the program.

Shaq Vs. Audience Reviews

Grimossfer Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to members of the 1%
Ogosmith Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Clarissa Mora The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
Fulke Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
SnoopyStyle This is a silly show. The first season is watchable, but much of the second season is not. The premise of the show is Shaq takes on other world class athletes in their own sports. Then we follow Shaq as he negotiate the terms of the competition, train for it, and finally do the competition. The first season had some pretty good sports stars Ben Roethlisberger, Misty & Kerri, Albert Pujols, Oscar de la Hoya, and Michael Phelps. The second season is a more mixed bag. The show relies heavily on Shaq's charisma. The first season had the addition of an actual interest in the competition. It's a gimmick and a fun character. That's all.
Feeny0902 It's kind of like that thing that Julianna Margulies said about the movie Snakes on a Plane - if you're expecting something more or different from the title, then there's really nothing more anyone can do for you. It's just for fun! And yes, of course it's all staged and things are set up and it's awkward conversation at "press conferences", but it's hilarious, people! It's supposed to be funny and light. And it's Shaq - the ego centric enormous/gigantic guy - doing other sports, and he's getting spiked volleyballs to the face - from professional volleyball players. Come on! I'm laughing; You should be too. It's props to professional sports players, taking a look at some of the training. It's goofy fun. It's for the whole family. Are you going to have deep revelations in the middle of the show, no, of course not. So why you're so disappointed from a show called Shaq Vs? Snakes on a Plane, people. Just take a load off and relax with some senseless, entertaining, intentional physical comedy.
