SoTrumpBelieve Must See Movie...
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Sean Duncan The first episode was intriguing, shocking and disturbing- it led to a good first season, all in all. Afterwards, the plot started to get pretty absurd and by the end (season 3) it was just awful. There are some truly talented actors and actresses in this- REALLY amazing performances but shocking as it may come, it is the plot and script-writing that let the whole thing (and these actors) down. I wouldn't waste time on this- if they come out with more series, I will watch something else, not this.
lancer165 Have now finished this series. An interesting twist was thrown into the mix. I know the tale and have read much theorising about the incident. America was settled by many who had left the British Isles and of course elsewhere from mainly Protestant lands. The heaven and hell and Satan with his demons figured greatly in the preaching and as a warning about transgressions. While some good ideas are out there about how this became an epidemic it may never be fully known. Some nations did persecute mainly women. The herbalists of then were seen as maybe witches and many superstitious stories told did not help. Women were the main target for some reason. James 1 had a fear of witchcraft. I have no idea how many were MURDERED and this is what the twist in the story is about. This story tells us that witches do indeed exist and that if we think about the actual real world the Puritan may indeed have unwittingly been the agent of evil. Many so called faithful parents were cruel to children in the name of their God and his laws. The inquisition was forged from interpretations of the Bible by Jesuits.Within the tale here is a long drawn out love story and in this a pregnant deserted? Mary succumbed to solve a problem. It did indeed solve more than one until her real love thought dead returned. The outcome overall was satisfying to the audience that took the tale at face value. The pedant of course will not be.There are a few supernatural series out there with other superstitious night creatures as even the heroes. I can enjoy the twists that are thrown in but they are usually follow on from Movie plots. Underworld a fair example. They are mostly for a much younger audience. A few things of course in this did not gel but all in all the story was well told and quite acceptable.Glad it had an ending that was not too rushed.
Liz Fediw I wish there were more shows like this. I"m not a big TV series watcher, but this show has really captivated me. I can't wait to watch every episode and I'm looking forward to watching Season 3. I love the setting in historic Salem, and all the costumes. The acting is truly great, not just by the lead characters either. Janet Montgomery is really wonderful..and so nice to see Lucy Lawless again. What I love most, is how it tries to explain the mystery behind the witch trials which gives it a realistic type of approach and how the witches receive their powers. There is just so much information building up on the characters.and you feel the emotional dilemmas they all face as well as the other characters.I really recommend this show..and I hope that the producers can continue with the show for a long time.
The Couchpotatoes When I read it was a series about witches I was already a little excited because that's right in my street. I like that kind of stories. The story itself is not bad at all, maybe a bit cheesy sometimes but there are enough gory details to keep it interesting. The actors are all okay with their performances besides Seth Gabel. Him, I don't really like. But he's not terrible either, maybe it's just me. After watching the first season I had mixed feelings about it. The second season was better. The only thing that I absolutely hate is the directing and editing of some scenes. I get that you have to have extras to make some scenes look real but here in this series it's just beyond awful. I mean by that I live in a city of approximatively 200000 people and Salem looks like there are maybe 50 houses more or less. Well if you watch closely in every scene of every episode it looks like there are 200 people wandering in the streets all the time. Where are all those people going in a small village like that? It's just ridiculous. That never happens in my big city. And what is even more ridiculous is that they don't even check some details in the editing. And by that I mean that at some point you see a conversation with two of the main characters in the street with in the background three peasants walking by, then followed by a shot of one of the main character speaking, then another shot of the other character speaking with one of the three peasants walking by again in the same direction. Not even changed his clothes or anything, just the same guy walking by again in the same direction but this time alone. You wonder why they pay a guy for editing... Other then that the show is okay. Just too bad of the really annoying extras walking by every second of the day or night.
