Britain is in the grip of a chilling recession... falling wages, rising prices, civil unrest - only the bankers are smiling. It's 1783 and Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his beloved Cornwall to find his world in ruins: his father dead, the family mine long since closed, his house wrecked and his sweetheart pledged to marry his cousin. But Ross finds that hope and love can be found when you are least expecting it in the wild but beautiful Cornish landscape.

Rijndri Load of rubbish!!
Libramedi Intense, gripping, stylish and poignant
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
julia2702 Woow. I did not expect to find such a gem when I started watching. I came across a pic of Aidan Turner in a triangle hat a while ago, and somehow did not feel inspired to watch - no matter his good looks :) But as I finally began - I was glued to the screen for hours on end, watching episode after episode, hankering for more each time! What a story. And what a hero. Whoever cast Aidan and Eleanor deserves the best prize. They are both so attractive, so distinctive-looking and so right for the parts! The man has become a heart-throb for many (myself included), even though we may not realize it's Aidan-Ross that we are all in love with, and he only exists on a film set :)Brilliant acting from Mr Turner. So much heart, and warmth, and passion, and emotion! Magnetic smile and voice. Demelza's natural beauty is a treat for the eyes, likewise. Tender yet strong, simple yet incredibly wise. All other actors are wonderful, too. I was a bit against Heida Reed at first, but I grew to love her so much as the show progressed. The story and the script, gorgeous Cornwall scenery and beautiful soundtrack.. So much to love. This series goes straight to your heart. It's the level of production quality when you forget these are not real people.10 stars, friends. No words will suffice to express my gratitude to the cast and crew - for almost 40 hours of pure bliss.
orca-14854 Having seen the trailer, I was expecting something very very good BUT what I got was INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC & BELIEVABLE viewing which transported me along the beautiful roads and countryside of 18th century Britain and along the way I was introduced to the best eye-popping candy I have seen in decades.....the delectable Aidan Turner. It was so good in fact that I immersed myself in the whole of the 1st and 2nd series in one weekend ....so ladies, my suggestion to you is to do what I did, put away your vacuums, dishcloths and pegbags, put your mobiles on silent, make some coffee and sit back and take in all that is magical and exciting right from the first minute of my most favorite series EVER. I hope you enjoy it as much.....
chrishealey13 Let me preface this by saying that I'm a 20 year old college guy who was just bored on Prime TV looking for something to watch, and was not expecting to enjoy a "romance drama" as much as this. In fact I cannot even believe I'm fond enough of this show to write a brief review about it. Is it slow? Yes. Is there a ton of action and crazy stuff going on? No. But it hooked me in nonetheless. I found the main character Ross Poldark to be very intriguing to watch and figure out what he was all about. I think Aidan Turner does an awesome job portraying the rough around the edges, yet tender character of Ross. Also, the other lead actors and actresses playing characters such as Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson), Elizabeth (Heida Reed) and others do a fantastic job. I was expecting corny nonsense in a genre like this, but that's not the case. I think that comes from having a story based off a well respected author. Also, the visuals and soundtrack are absolutely phenomenal. I think that half the reason I watch is to see the gorgeous shots of Cornwall (aka the Cornish Riviera), along with the brilliant soundtrack by Anne Dudley which provide for some heart stopping moments. The intro and transitions in this show are some of my favorite parts of it, and that is not to dash the story, but simply meant to show just how amazing they are. Give it a watch! My only complaint would be some of the unrealistic outcomes from certain plots in the story which I don't want to give away that left me feeling a bit like "cmon...there's no way that was actually supposed to happen". Nevertheless, a great show. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did.
jaycopson Even Seinfeld wasn't always perfect, but I have yet to watch an episode of this series that left me feeling even the slightest disappointment. Although I certainly wouldn't expect to be let down--based on the absolutely fantastic seasons played thus far--it just becomes hard to believe that the series will bowl yet another strike. I barely view any television, and I've already re-watched the first season. There are ample ups and downs and twists, and you will likely be kept in suspense between episodes, but one of the most wonderful qualities of Poldark is the way the story will lift your spirits and revive your optimism about the human experience in general.
