Pet Star was a show on Animal Planet hosted by Mario Lopez. The show is a contest between owners and their trained pets who perform tricks. The tricks are graded by three celebrity judges on a scale of one to 10. In the end, the three pets with the highest score come out as finalists, and the audience votes on who is the episode's Pet Star. Then, at the end of the season, the winners compete to be the year's ULTIMATE PET STAR. The winner of a regular show gets $2,500, while the winner of the finals gets $25,000. There were many celebrity judges, including Gena Lee Nolin, Virginia Madsen, Will Estes, Lindsay Wagner, Matt Gallant, Mackenzie Phillips, Billy West, James Avery, George Wallace, Melissa Peterman, Christopher Rich, John O'Hurley, Vanessa Lengies, Dom Irrera, Carol Leifer, Andy Kindler, Melissa Rivers, Meshach Taylor, Kaley Cuoco, Rosa Blasi, Jeff Cesario, Karri Turner, Peter Scolari, Bruce Jenner, Fred Willard, Shari Belafonte, Josh Meyers, Lori Petty, Ben Stein, Richard Jeni, Ken Howard, Paul Gilmartin, Maria Menounos, Tempestt Bledsoe, David Brenner and Amy Davidson. Jenni Devyn Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
genemartin I was disappointed with the judge's decision regarding the 3rd place winner. This dog performed a well-known and easily-learned trick which any dog with a nose could learn, without the trainer having invested a great deal of time and energy. Because two of the judges were totally ignorant of this fact, the well-trained then 3rd place contender was eliminated. I feel this was totally unfair. I also feel it was somewhat underhanded for the host to "play along" with the hoax; had he not, perhaps the two judges would have clued in and not given such high marks. The first and second place winners were truly amazing, but the third place winner should not have even been considered for the finals, in my humble opinion.
xeophaje PETA must love this show, after all animals are "being exploited" for human entertainment.... PETA can just suck it up and deal.... I must say I am not pleased to see Mario Lopez exiled to second rate cable television though. Guess he wasn't quite NYPD Blue material? However the show is an alternative to David Letterman's Stupid Pet Tricks....Would I watch the show again? No way.... Once was more than enough. The show would be good for children to watch I suppose, hey it is Animal Planet after all, a Dr. Laura approved network. But hey give the show at least one viewing, because I would like to see Mario Lopez continue to work.
Nocgirl72 I loved the 2003 finals, Ice the horse was the best! There are some really smart, talented animals on here but occasionally a stupid act will emerge (the duck eating out of the woman's mouth was stupid and gross). Sometimes I think the judges are compelled to give a good store because they feel sorry for the contestant but overall, it's a cool show. I think Mario Lopez was a good choice for the host, he seems friendly and personable.
Movie Nuttball I was amazed at these animals that come on this show called Pet Star. Animal Planet's show is quite entertaining. As a lover of all animals I loved it when there was a whole bunch of different little animals such as dogs, cats, pigs, birds, primates, horses, raccoons, lobsters, and other great animals. There are celeb judges that score a 1 top 10 with 10 being the best.In the three top spots the audience then votes who they thought performed the best. The top owner and animal with win $2500 and will go on to the $25.000 contest. Each season boasts over a hundred different animals.I really think this show this is really cool and I think it neat to see animals doing some extreme and crazy things. The new season is coming up shortly and check it soon and watch older episodes now on Animal Planet!
