Real-life mermaids, Sirena, Nixie and Lyla are part of a mermaid pod, which lives in the waters of Mako Island. As young members of the pod, it is their job to protect the Moon Pool and guard it from trespassers. But on the night of a full moon, the mischievous mermaid girls neglect their duties. Sixteen-year-old land-dweller Zac enters the Moon Pool and forms a special connection with Mako. Zac is given a fish-like tail and amazing powers. The mermaid pod is forced to leave Mako, leaving behind the three mermaid girls, cast out of the pod. They know there's only one way they will be allowed to rejoin the pod: They must get legs, venture onto land and take back Zac's powers – or risk being outcasts forever.

Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Tacticalin An absolute waste of money
Teddie Blake The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Ghostwriter14 Over all, I enjoyed this series, but for a spin-off, it raises a lot of questions 1: Mermaids: If there's a Mermaid Council and the moon pool is always guarded, where were they when Emma, Rikki, and Cleo fell into the pool? And why wasn't this addressed in H20 Just Add Water? 2. Merman: Throughout the whole series, noises are made about the fact that there are no mermen and that they're dangerous, but if that's the case, how are there numerous pods all over the world with over a hundred mermaids in each pod? 3. The characters: A lot of the time, the characters weren't very likable. They can be forgiven at the beginning of the series because they don't know land culture, that's fine, but Nixie came across as being sociopathic and Weilan (a later mermaid) was an annoying know-it-all. 4: Music: I'm not talking about the score or background. I'm talking about Sirena and the actress Amy Ruffle singing in practically EVERY episode. The series relied too much on music and it became annoying. That being said, it had plenty of excitement and great storylines. It just probably would've been better as a stand alone series than a spin-off.
carrieayla I'm aware that this is a show about mermaids, but even in fantasy there has to be enough realism to make it believable and draw you in; the costumes in this show fail at that so much it's cringeworthy. The acting and plot is usually very cringeworthy as well.
tubeindustriesbroadcastingco From a quality level, this show is a 3 but I voted it 1 because I personally hated it.From the country that brought you Steve Irwin and countless nature documentaries, Jonathan M. Shiff Productions presents Mako Mermaids. From the mediocre cinematography, cheap effects, substandard acting, and cringe worthy story line, Mako Mermaids is hardly enjoyable. Maybe if you are a little girl that hasn't developed refined entertainment tastes yet you will find it enjoyable but don't except it to be entertaining to the average person. The story line is bizarre and nonsensical. like its counterpart H20 Just Add Water, it doesn't explain the reasons for anything that happens other than just MAGIC. The overall point of the story Is to stop a dude who fell into the magic volcano pool from being hypnotized by the moon and finding the trident of unimaginable power which exists in a secret portal in the volcano. There is also a sub plot where the three girls have been exiled from their "pod" (because mermaid society operates like dolphins) and they will be permanently banished because they let someone in the moon pool.Honestly boring and not worth your time.
girlintheclouds *CONTAINS SPOILERS* I watch this show alongside my niece(7)on Netflix when she visits. We have watched to the last episode of season 4. The first thing that drew me to this show was Zac who is very easy on the eyes and close to myself in age. The first season was a bit awkward as the story was kind of setting itself up, and the weird forced chemistry between Zac and Lyla was cringe-worthy at best. So, on to seasons 2-4.These seasons really pushed the envelope on whether or not Zac is a decent boyfriend. There were several moments where my niece turned to me and was like "Zac is cute but Evie should break up with him!" and things of that nature. I have to say I agree with my niece, in that how many times do you need to catch your boyfriend practicing kung fu magic in the forest with some random girl before you come to your senses? Zac always manages to excuse his intimacies with the other mermaids and Evie always forgives him, even though his mer-cohorting continues even after Evie's transformation. And I'll be honest that I full on cried when Evie lost her tail because it meant that she lost that intimacy with Zac and it meant she was back to the position of being excluded from "his world".Also, I don't care for Wei Lan at all. She has no manners, no patience and has no problem moving herself into closer and closer proximity to Zac regardless of the fact that he's in a relationship. And she spends time with some random old guy she has no relation to, but calls uncle. This is not Weilan's fault and more me giving the writers the people's eyebrow. It's weird and creepy and just stop it!Serena who was the last of the original 3 disappeared and I instantly missed her. But, I love Mimi and what she has added to the story. The entire backstory with Zac's original family is really sweet and moving and Mimi is an absolute joy. Her character has a quiet strength that is admirable. It's a bit late in the game but it would be nice to have one of the mermaids stay through to the end of the series as opposed to having them constantly changed. It's one of the rare shows out there where you can watch with your kid and not get bored. Kudos!
