Info

Laverne & Shirley is an American television sitcom that ran on ABC from January 27, 1976 to May 10, 1983. It starred Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney, single roommates who worked as bottlecappers in a fictitious Milwaukee brewery called "Shotz Brewery." The show was a spin-off from Happy Days, as the two lead characters were originally introduced on that series as acquaintances of Fonzie. Set in roughly the same time period, the timeline started in approximately 1958, when the series began, through 1967, when the series ended. As with Happy Days, it was made by Paramount Television, created by Garry Marshall, and executive produced by Garry Marshall, Edward K. Milkis, and Thomas L. Miller.

Laverne & Shirley Audience Reviews

Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Grimossfer Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to members of the 1%
Iseerphia All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
jc-osms Another "Happy Days" spin-off and one fondly remembered from my youth. I've just watched the pilot again and will try to watch more as it lived up to memory of a happy, funny and entertaining show. The "take two girls" set-up works very well and enables the show to still function in the same time-line as "Happy Days" and yet not seem too similar despite the familiar 50's era surroundings.Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams make an ideal pairing, Marshall as the louder, brasher Laverne and Williams as the cuter, more sensitive Shirley. Their two dorkish-but-adoring adoring would-be boyfriends Lenny and Squiggy provide more light relief in the background but, as its perky little theme tune says, these two dreamchasers won't give up till they've made at least one dream come true.Nicely written, with just an occasional touch of risqué humour peeping through and well acted, occasionally benefiting initially from one-shot guest appearances by some of the "Happy Days" crew, the show soon learned to stand on its own and deservedly ran for several series on its own merits.
DKosty123 Laverne & Shirley was a spin off from Happys Days. Early on it was a very good show. It's Midwest base was fresh & the 2 brewery babes actually had a fair amount of talent. Laverne always played the woman with the rodeo-dough body though I actually liked her curves. Penny Marshall played her understated but never without an L on her blouse OR sweater.Cindy Williams Shirley was a counter balance. A woman built like a 2 by 4 who always seemed hyped up on something. Her acting and comedic timing always seemed to be right on.Lenny & Squiggy were those guys that always hang around the chicks but never score. They were always the butt of Laverne & Shirley's jokes. Their support & timing produced some of the funnier moments of the show. This show was OK until they moved to California from Milwaukee. Then it was like a writers strike as for some reason the scripts seemed to think it was just funny that the girls were in California, & they didn't need to be funny because of the locale. Wrong move to put it kindly by the folks producing this show.Carmine Ragusa (the big Ragu) actually became the Fonzie of this show. Marshall & Williams never got along during this shows run. I am not sure why but it appears Williams was the bigger loser when this got canceled. Without Marshall's support, Cindy Williams career has gone nowhere since she left this series.I always remember the Max Shotz portrait at the brewery in Milwaukee and his quote underneath - "Get Back To Work" This show is indeed the strongest of the Happy Days spin offs.
smirre44 I've noticed this show (and lots of others) been referenced in countless shows and movies, and I finally got a chance to watch it, as the local TV channel started airing old US sitcoms. Didn't really think it was that good, the characters aren't really delivering astounding performances, and they're at times really annoying. But, i suppose one had to grow up on a show like this to really like it. Next!
JennLynn Great show. Laverne and Shirley are great together. Their co-stars are great. In the last season, the show lacked one BIG thing: Shirley. The supporting characters could not make up for this big loss. But it was still good but there was less emphasis on what the show's concept had been.
