Disturbing yet enthralling

Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

Well, season 5 is upon us and I don't care to watch the rest of it. I watched most of the first season and thought I would vomit if Martha McCully gushed at David Bromstead's naked chest just one more time. At least HGTV got wise and hired real interior designers this season. However, I'm still not seeing what I want to see from the designers - what each one can and cannot do on their own. It seems HGTV isn't willing to put out the money to showcase each of the designers until the very last challenge. The designers get one "white box" challenge in the beginning and then work in teams the rest of the season. I know it is important to make sure the designer that gets the show can work well with others, but really, couldn't we see that in a couple of group/team challenges? David Bromstead is really boring on his show (don't know how he got renewed, but then again, I turn him off when his show comes on). I liked Kim Myles but HGTV didn't give her a good show and I don't see Antonio anywhere. I'm sure I'm missing one of the winners. All the rest are so much better than Bromstead and have more personality.Very disappointed. Don't even see the point in watching the rest of this season.

I saw HGTV DESIGN STAR when I was on holiday in the US. We have nothing that even comes close to this in Australia - more's the pity!It is one of the most entertaining and captivating shows I have ever seen . . . .and Clive Pearse had me laughing out loud with his wicked wit. He is a bit of a hunk into the bargain! All the contestants were very knowledgeable and entertaining. The pace of the program makes for wall to wall 'interesting viewing'. I even picked up some great tips on interior design. You MUST watch this show. HGTV DESIGN STAR made me want to pack up my life in Oz and move to the States.

I am not a fan of design shows (paint-dry TV), and I am very picky about my reality competition shows, but this one seems to be good for fans of either type of show. Good drama, good design, great host and judges (Clive especially is engaging and funny, without trying too hard). This seems like it could be better than Project Runway, since there is much more going on than just sitting in a room and sewing a dress! Design is much more active.Very nice effort all around, and I can't wait to see more. These shows always get better as you move along and get to know the characters.
