GANTZ Audience Reviews

Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Pluskylang Great Film overall
SanEat A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Mischa Redfern I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
eyloiw Too many repeated scenes that add nothing but recap of something you've already seen. The characters spend far too much time standing around, doing nothing. A lot of still images that suggest a low budget. I had high hopes for this anime after finishing the manga, but this was just awful. If you are a fan of the manga, you will not like this series at all. I found myself yelling at the TV multiple times out of frustration with the characters. Please do not look at the score and think it's watchable. I could not recommend this series to anyone.
enkephalin07 When you wind up dramatic tension in a scene, it has to pay off, in either action or plot revelation. But it's possible to spend so long on the wind-up that no pay-off will be worth it, and all your get for the effort is viewer apathy. This series does this a lot.Every action is preceded with 5 minutes of internalizing the obvious, and followed with 5 minutes of predictable reaction. It's as if this was written to be accessible an audience too dense to grasp a situation within the first 30 frames -- an audience not mature enough for this level of graphic violence and sex in the first place. The illustration and sound were very fine, but not enough to make this less grueling to watch. But if you happen to be studying Japanese, this is pretty basic material to listen to, so it won't be a complete waste of your time. The characters aren't much for observation, or any thought that isn't self-involved and too rudimentary for the capacity for real self-consciousness.However, if you wanted to watch a pack of animal-order personalities get horribly mutilated -- no, forget that, they still don't die quick enough to sustain interest.
ballound I don't really know why did I start watching this... But it is worth my time. I want to write this just to answer to those who hated the show due to violence, nudity and weird stuff that did happen in the anime, and say that only perverts and anime fans will like it.In my whole life this is the second anime that I see. Never liked the genre, but a friend of mine made me watch Death Note, and I enjoyed a lot. So on I accidentally found Gantz and started watching it, and the story absorbed me until the end. It is quite weird because during the show, you don't really feel like you are part of the story, nor you want to be on it. You just see it from outside, and judge the situation from this point. Even Kei's pervert thoughts that look so pathetic, times goes on and you understand that you had this stupid toughts too. Yes the story is kinda slow, but still it is enjoyable. Why does it have so much gore and nudity? I guess to restrict the ages. I mean this story is not for kids, even if it did not have that gore scenes and nudity, this story is for mature people. The message given in the anime, is definitely not for kids.Don't listen to those who say that this is just for anime fan-boys. If you enjoy scy-fi whit some intellectual label such as The Matrix Trilogy, and similar stuff, you'll like this. It will is not nice to watch all this blood and violence, but world is kinda like that...
Mung Bean Well, I did enjoy watching Gantz, but.... its painfully slow. In a typical scene, the robot is coming! And someone is about to shoot the gun! Then, the robot is coming! And someone is about to shoot! After that, the robot is coming! And someone is about to shoot it! And the robot is still coming! And someone hasn't shot it yet but they are about to! And here comes the robot! The gun is about to go off! That sums up pretty much every episode, and there must have been at least 30% of this meaningless fill in every episode. These scenes just overstretched the sense of tension to the point of snapping. Plenty of better anime out there.
