if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

The acting in this movie is really good.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

7/15/18. Overall, this was an above average murder mystery series, on the light side. Father Brown is a priest who missed his calling to be a detective, but that doesn't stop him from forever meddling in murder investigations going on in his parish. Of course, he uses his position to elicit confessions and right what he considers wrong by telling off the police, if he feel is necessary. Amazingly, he manages to get more confessions from murderers than is realistic. This is fiction, after all. Though Brown comes off as annoying at times, you know he is only trying to do the right thing. He is a priest, after all.

We much more enjoyed the seasons staring Nancy Carroll as Lady Felicia and Tom Chambers. The character of Bunty is rather uninteresting and one dimensional, and Inspector Mallory is a stereotypical idiot. Also, the character of Syd is much missed in storylines, as well. Although Father Brown is, all in all, good entertainment, I do miss the earlier seasons.

Father Brown, the TV series is about a priest who witnesses more deaths than a hangman and solves all of them before the local police can, much to the resentment of the inspector. Armed with a bicycle, an award-winning scone baker of a parish secretary and a rich countess with a Rolls Royce, Father Brown bustles about Kembleford and nearby villages trying to satisfy his inquisitive spirit by solving murders. The series is based in the 50s, after the second world war and the production perfectly recreates the period in this drama. While it is no racy thriller, it is perfect for a weekend afternoon and is quite entertaining.

I did not read the Father Brown books so went into this show with no expectations except that it was a British murder detective show.It is like watching a production of the 1st grade prime "Fun With Dick and Jane" put on by sedated elementary schoolers. Who try to convey their emotions with thru overly-exaggerated facial and body flailing movements. The rich are obnoxious prigs, the poor are proud and hones, no one is nice with nasty snide remarks flying all over and the Father is a joke. This Father Brown has no problem disobeying the police, sneaking into confidential offices to get information and is just arrogant, pompous and silly.
