While it is very light in atmosphere it has some unique depth behind it and greatly developed characters.
The show has interesting legal cases that challenge the legal system and expand our thoughts and test boundaries. All the characters are colourul, complex and entertaining. The storyline is a treat for people who have some cusiousity about the possibilities of the afterlife, and what does it mean for our soul to be in a different body, and the questions of true love versus pure physical attraction.
A lovely show that will be missed.

Through Season Four I liked this show. Okay, I only ever half-watched it, because I work from home and like/need to have a 'distraction' for part of my brain in order to be able to focus on my own writing work (books) and also my programming work (software apps). Strange but true. However, just before Season Five arrived on Netflix I had sold my last startup and was basically just 'cruising along' trying out new programming languages and finishing final revisions for my latest book (I write my books under a nom de plume though I post HERE under my real name, just fyi.) So for Season Five, I actually leaned back in my recliner and decided to really enjoy the show. Alas! That was not possible, because the homosexual writers' agenda kicked in full force for this season. As a long time California resident (though I managed to escape that insanity ten years ago), I am fully aware that there IS a homosexual agenda, particularly in the entertainment field. Many of the writers are homosexuals and finally they believe that mainstream Americans have 'accepted' their lifestyle choice as 'normal'. Well, they are wrong. We do not, and as the millennials mature, neither will they. I can write a dissertation on that, but maybe I'll just go all controversial and finally write that book under my real name. After all, I don't care if I get ostracized by a few (or many). I care about being authentic. But here's the mini version: The homosexual agenda is to have it seem like anyone can raise a kid and that children do not need to be raised by TWO people (a married man/woman couple), but that any woman can have a baby with or without the benefit of a loving relationship with a father for the baby in the picture for the long-haul. That leads right into what they want: anyone can have a baby, in any way they want, via baster or via sexual intercourse between a man and a woman who love, and are committed, to each other... or via a woman giving birth to a homosexual male's baby so he and his 'lover' can raise it together. This is an immature "I want it all" self-indulgent belief system and one that many homosexuals espouse. So I do need to write this book, and go headlong up against current psychiatrist baloney. But I'm willing to do that. As for THIS show it went from semi-SciFi to verging on deviant porn, and I'm no longer interested in watching another episode. Season Five really reinforces the truth about actors... they are only parrots after all.

I was very surprised by the fact that I loved this show! Although there are many 'flaws' in the premise and setting, they somehow melt away into insignificance as you watch the brilliant performance from the lead actress and appreciate the humour, warmth and fun which is at the heart of the show. Of course it doesn't make sense that Fred the guardian angel tells Debs that "memories are stored in the soul" in order to explain why she has no knowledge of Jane's life, yet at the same time she is able to recall all of Jane's expert legal knowledge. Nor is it realistic that the whole world which Jane inhabits seems to consist purely of beautiful people, while she is the only overweight person. This is probably a necessary device however, in order to magnify Jane/Deb's predicament and the discrimination and judgement she often faces. It is as though an overweight (though still very attractive) woman has gatecrashed an episode of Ally MacBeal! But what fun she is to watch! The legal stories dealt with in each episode are very light and not intended to be a serious representation of how the law works. This is fine with me, as there are more than enough legal dramas out there for those who want to see serious courtroom action. Drop Dead Diva is NOT trying to be Damages or The Good Wife! However, the legal cases depicted are still quite interesting and serve the main premise of the show well, being used most often to reinforce the main message of the show, or reveal important aspects of Debs character as she inhabits Jane's body. We really find ourselves rooting for her. The actress who plays her best friend, Stacey, is also great. So I found myself completely able to forgive and forget any 'flaws', as the writing, acting and quirkiness is so enjoyable to watch. I think Brooke Elliot is the main draw and a real star. I look forward to each episode to see what she gets up to (and just to enjoy her acting). I look forward to learning more about what Jane was actually like, other than the fact she was/is overweight. I would like to ad, I am NOT a fan of glossy American dramas and I think that is actually why I liked this so much - although it LOOKS glossy, it really does break the mould with it's fresh twist.

Slightly Addictive! I have enjoyed the show's Second season while a short stay in the U.S, so now that Netflix is available in South America I have been watching back to back episodes of the show and I'm enjoying each episode thoroughly. I am so Glad to find the show is still on! and I can not wait to follow it closely. Brooke Elliott is impeccable as Jane/Deb. Funny, light hearted, with a pinch of sarcasm. She's amazing in it! She sure shows to anyone who can see that even if she doesn't wear the fashion forward standard size, she is an incredible woman, with a great personality, a successful career and let me be honest here she is also BEAUTIFUL!. and Fred ? Love him, he's the kind of guy that makes you say things like 'he's my brother from another mother'and seriously, who could have played Teri as good as Margaret Cho does? NO ONE!. Honestly they have done a great job finding the perfect cast, and so far I love all the characters, I even like Kate Levering as the bigheaded Kim (which by the way is really well played!). The writing is light and delightful, specially for this being set at a law firm. I am not a lawyer, and I am not American, so the legal portion is also helpful to learn how things work there. Although I can not tell when it is all fairplayed or not. But for what is worht it I'm tired of shows that starts as comedy and end up being drama, drama, DRAMA! Watching the show is the perfect way to end a long day of work. After all we have enough DRAMA living our own lives.Good Luck for this new season, I'm thrilled to see what you come up with! keep up the good work.
