Highly Overrated But Still Good

It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Like many recent anime series this follows the exploits of a group of school girls. Usually the protagonists in such series such series are involved in a sport, the student council or a club but here their defining characteristic is that they don't take part in any after school activities
hence The Going Home Club. Not doing anything else they just get together and have fun together. For the most part they are just ordinary girls; although one of them, Botan Ohagi, likes to fight bears!! Throughout the series the fourth wall is repeatedly shattered; the characters are aware they are in a TV series and often comment on when the episode should end and discuss how the series should conclude.I found this series rather enjoyable although I suspect it will be quickly forgotten; it just doesn't stand out from all the other series about a group of school girls. This is a pity as it does contain some good laughs; the way the characters constantly broke the fourth wall was pretty funny. The animation and character designs are both pretty good. Overall I'd say this is worth watching if you've enjoyed other schoolgirl anime; just don't expect a classic like Azumanga or Lucky Star.
