Chewing Gum Audience Reviews

2hotFeature one of my absolute favorites!
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Michelle Ridley The movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
hephzibahd I first saw a commercial of this show while traveling in Belgium from the states. That evening the show came on and totally loved the shows humor. I was sad I couldn't watch more. When I came home to the states I saw it was on Netflix. OhMyGawd I was tap excited!!!! I watched both seasons and been waiting for season 3 but no news on it. Sad face... I hope season 3 production starts soon. The show is brilliant!!
Khun Kru Mark Chewing Gum eventually loses its flavor! The bizarre, often crude and superficial examination of what happens when religion and sex collide. The effervescent and talented Michaela Coel stars, writes and is wholly responsible for this almost autobiographical take on her struggles with growing up into adulthood. It's 'Miranda' on speed in a much crappier neighborhood!Ms Coel ranges in appearance from a demure and frail Ghanian flower to grotesque New York drag queen very easily and it's these extremes in her life that make for a fast moving and very quirky situation comedy. The forced conflation of spiritual subservience and sexual discovery makes for uncomfortable viewing at times and there's no subtlety or pause in the action to allow the viewer to take a deep breath and examine what's happening. The series is helped, however, with good supporting characters, some swift editing and a frothy style of direction. This kind of TV clearly isn't aimed for the likes of old white codgers like me... but throughout all the noise and rough edges of this series, I predict that the world of entertainment will see a helluva lot more of Michaela Coel in the future.
mkzr The main character development is too slow, I lose some interest in the show because she is constantly reviewing the past and emotions but always having a passive way dealing with it, not trying to be pretentious here, but it will be better to make her more intriguing and complex, I know that maybe the protagonist is written to be more of an inducible type of person and she stands in certain moments, but then, like I've said, she constantly review her emotions and second- guessed herself and the girl are stuck in it. She is romantic self-centered and this is not a bad thing itself but it would be a lot better if she has some other concerns in life. What catches is the antagonist' life, here we see some more developed character with more interesting things going on, like the old lady and the mothers' ones, the mother of the guy is one of my favorites too, even her friend is more interesting, the show itself is not bad, strong antagonist', aesthetic is really pretty, but the protagonist girl, oh boy, she has charisma, but I don't watch the show because of her anymore and I probably will continue to watch because of the antagonists.
Danail Dimitrov This TV series is humorous and utterly brilliant. The mix of religion, early twenties life, and lessons of life, make this TV series unique and highly entertaining for youngsters of my age (22).It is such a feel-good series to watch, but with a mere tease of six episodes, more needs to be released. Having just watched the last episode, I can tell that there is easily at least another two seasons of unique material for me to enjoy. Every episode so far has made me laugh out loud, and has definitely made me feel good about myself. Worryingly, some I could even relate to. Looking forward to another season - here is hoping the writers read this and release it.
