Laura Hollis, a newly enrolled college student at Silas University, shares a room with Betty, who mysteriously disappears all of a sudden. Little does Laura know that after this fateful night, nothing will be the same in her life, starting with meeting her new roommate from hell, Carmilla Karnstein. "Carmilla" is a single-camera, scripted transmedia series that puts a modern spin on the cult classic Gothic vampire novella by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. It's a story of a young woman’s susceptibility to the attentions of a female vampire.

Carmilla Audience Reviews

Inclubabu Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
Ploydsge just watch it!
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
invisibleunicornninja The story and characters are all great. My only complaint is the format. This show would have been infinitely better if they didn't use the webcam gimmick. Every episode that is shot normally is so much more visually interesting. I know that this show was low-budget, and they probably couldn't have shown all the monsters and stuff, but just moving the camera around the room would've helped this show a lot. Its visually boring, and as it goes on it makes less and less sense why she's recording everything.
Ella Pauly I would honestly recommend this to every single person I see if that were socially acceptable. Making female perspectives the default (in Tatiana Maslany's words) is so refreshing and just watching the show is empowering. It's cheesy romantic fantasy, yes, but: - there's a gender non-binary character - there are multiple gay characters - the main couple is lesbian - all of the lead roles are female - the girls save the boys, not the other way around - there's an emphasis on both girl-on-girl friendship and romantic attraction, portrayed better than those things usually are (probably because most creators/crew are women) So 8/10 for representation. It's just not a typical web series. It's obviously low-budget, but they do it well, and I think that actually allows you to focus more on the story. The acting is 7/10 overall, but they interact incredibly well with each other and the actors are such awesome people in real life that their personality shines through the characters. It's funny, heartwarming, frustrating, intelligent, romantic, silly, and serious all at the same time. I can't think of any other web series like it, nor any other series like it, for that matter. It's so unique, both in a "wtf how did they come up with that" way and in the way it handles fantasy and real issues together. I give it a 10/10 because it's one of those things that once you watch it, there's nothing specific you can say to explain why it affects you. Movies, series, books, and music that you truly love are often impossible to explain, you just have to watch it to understand. J Sheridan LeFanu wrote an excellent novella, but this adaptation is a whole new level of wonderful. The fandom is also really excellent. In short, if you're not watching Camilla, you're really missing out.
Angelus Montoya Although the series starts a little slow and might lack the bigger budgets of more dynamic online series, it has a honest and antiquated atmosphere which lets you connect deeply with the characters; not unlike a Harry Potter miniseries. The recent popularity of this series is unprecedented and continues to march beyond 10 million Youtube Views (end of 2014).It's also a breath of fresh air at how the characters gender and sexual identities are unabashedly poised and brings a fresh breath of normalcy to modern relationships. The lead (Elise Bauman) and title lead (Natasha Negovanlis) actors who play Laura and Carmilla are charmingly believable and are able to bring their own genuine and entertaining wit. The supporting cast complement each other splendidly and are well developed as well as entertaining.I strongly recommend giving this show a watch if you're a guy or girl, straight or not so straight as you will find that long lost fun mixing in old school Buffy, Sabrina with a mix of modern Sookie Stackhouse.
MasterofQuest 1389 I undoubtedly recommend this great web series to all of you!For those who are not aware of it,carmilla is a vampire character from a book with the same title! This web series has everything that's necessary for a show to be worth watching it.The acting is great and the chemistry among the cast and especially between the two main characters creates a very special and unique atmosphere. The plot is interesting enough to keep you alert and wanting more and more episodes!Unfortunately each one of them is only lasts a few minutes, but that's what make your "desire" for this show growing! And the best part of all is the tension between carmilla and laura that will definitely leave you breathless!(and you can find the episodes on youtube)
