Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
gavin6942 In a small village, somewhere in France, German soldiers, killed and thrown into the lake by the Resistance during WW II, come back. The story was written by Jess Franco, although I am not sure how much thought had to go into this one. The film was directed by Jean Rollin (who was ashamed of his own work), and the opening scene pushes even his casual attitude towards female nudity to its limits. They both have a respectable career to some degree... not sure how this ended up on their resume.Almost no effort was put into the Nazi zombies, who are just guys with a little green makeup smeared on their face. I can do a better makeup job in my bathroom, and they do not ask me to do effects for horror films. The people who were behind this should not be proud. This ranks pretty low on the "Nazi zombie" scale, behind "Dead Snow" and "Shock Waves", and even behind another Jess Franco film "Oasis of the Zombies". This is, indeed, among the worst...
beyondthegore ...There is no real plot. The zombies themselves look really really poor, simply men with green paint on. It's embarrassing to watch as the 'actors' emerge from the lake with most of the green makeup washing of with each clichéd lurch. The blood and gore is not really worth mentioning as all of it is off screen with the simple ketchup spray of blood on the floor or grass to give indication of death. To top this movie off the dialog itself is really poor, and the UK DVD disc I viewed has quite possibly the worst dubbing ever; it was quite clear that all the voices were done by a single man and woman.Overall, this film has to be seen to be believed, ironically enough I strongly urge you just to take our word for it – and for the love of god don't watch it. I honestly mean it; this film is simply not worth watching. It's barely a movie by my definition of the word. It's an insult to the genre.Read the full review at: beyondthegore
Witchfinder General 666 ***SPOILERS!*** - Jean Rollin's "Le Lac Des Morts Vivants" aka. "Zombie Lake" must be arguably THE most ridiculous Zombie flick ever (I haven't seen Jess Franco's "Oasis Of The Zombies", which is said to be about equal, so far), which is quite something regarding all the trashy Romero and Fulci wannabes and the tons of rip-offs out there. Generally speaking, I enjoy director Rollin's films every now and then and I furthermore consider myself a fan of the super-prolific exploitation icon Jess Franco who co-wrote the film. This "Zombie Lake" however, is ONLY watchable for its value as one of the crappiest things ever brought to screen. The film's incomparable awfulness, however, makes it quite fun to watch for anybody who can enjoy awful cinema. In World War 2, the local resistance of a small French village killed a bunch of Nazi soldiers and (very smartly) threw their corpses into a lake that had been known as an obscure place of black magic since ancient times. Years later, the dead Germans awake all of a sudden and come out of the lake to drink the blood of teenage girls, who come to the lake for naked swimming (in spite of signs with Skulls and Bones that say "No Swimming!"). The Nazi-Zombies must be the most ridiculously looking living dead ever - They look quite the same as they did before they were killed, only that the makeup 'artist' here painted their faces green. In the end the Zombies are defeated when a 10-year-old girl lures them into a trap with a bucket of fresh blood (it is, of course, not explained where they took the blood from). Also, it is not quite clear at what time the film is supposed to take place - technically it can't play any later than in the 50s, as the daughter of one of the German soldiers is still a little girl of 10 years at most. Then again, the teenage girls wear hot-pants and miniskirts, which wasn't too popular in the 50s. When they wear anything, that is, since basically every female character in the film has a strong tendency to non-stop exhibitionism. Much in Rollin/Franco tradition, most girls are naked for about 90 per cent of their screen time, occasionally I had my doubts that they were all legally entitled to this, as some of them looked a bit too young. The performances are entirely god-awful, and exploitation veterans Howard Vernon and Antonio Mayans are no exception to that. The story is ridiculous from the first minute to the last, and the dialogue is among the stupidest I ever heard. Even the gore-effects are crappy. Still, this is recommendable to fans of bad cinema and watchable for people with a sense of humor for its unintentional fun-factor. But be aware that, while the sleaze and immense crap-factor might amuse at times, the film gets extremely boring at times. The use of the 'Fast Forward' button does not go in hand with a guilty conscience here.
Night-Of-The-Zombies This is a really low budget movie with a confusing story/plot "ZOMBIES" scared of knifes and they have green paint for the make-up but the worst thing is that this was slow other than that it is a pretty good movie for a Spanish "ZOMBIE" movie most of the Spanish "ZOMBIE" movie's are really slow and just plain suck but to my great surprise this was actually a good Nazi "ZOMBIE" movie there is another "ZOMBIE" movie that is also a Spanish "ZOMBIE" movie you mite have heard of called "OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES" witch actually sucked.I would recommend this to fans of low budget "ZOMBIE" movies. The most funny thing about this is that when one of the Nazi "ZOMBIES" bite a womens neck some of the make-up rubbed off on to the women and you could see the actors real skin color in that part.Man this was a pretty good movie....So go check it out I hope if you do see it that you like it.
