Info

Vengeance: Night of Champions was the seventh annual PPV within its Vengeance/Night of Champions chronology. It featured talent from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands. The event was presented by RAW Attitude Energy Drink and took place on June 24, 2007 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. This event was notable for being on the weekend of the Chris Benoit double murder and suicide case. Benoit, who was originally booked to face CM Punk for the vacant ECW World Championship, legitimately no-showed. The main event featured the Raw brand. It saw John Cena defend the WWE Championship against Mick Foley, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, and King Booker. The featured match from the SmackDown brand was a "Last Chance match" for the World Heavyweight Championship between Edge and Batista. The primary match from the ECW brand was CM Punk versus Johnny Nitro for the vacant ECW World Championship.

WWE Vengeance: Night of Champions 2007 Audience Reviews

ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Edwin The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
gridoon2018 1) The Hardys vs. Cade and Murdoch, for the World Tag Team titles. Fair opener, perhaps a bit better than their "Backlash" encounter (6/10).2) Chavo Guerrero vs. Jimmy Wang Yang, for the Cruiserweight title. A good little match, mostly thanks to JWY (previously known as Akio), who can be a quite spectacular high-flyer (6/10).3) Nitro vs. CM Punk, for the ECW title. My pick for best match of the night, between two well-matched and highly athletic opponents (7/10).4) Umaga vs. Santino Marella, for the IC title. The first dud of the night: a 3-minute squash that makes then-champion Marella look like a joke (3/10).5) MVP vs. Ric Flair, for the US title. The second dud in a row, though the crowd is undeniably into it (4/10).6) Deuce and Domino vs. Sgt. Slaughter and Jimmy Snuka, for the WWE Tag Team titles. A waste of time. Did anyone really think they were going to give the belts to two retired guest wrestlers? (4/10).7) Edge vs. Batista, for the World Heavyweight title. This match is surprisingly exciting with lots of near-falls, but the finish is pretty lame (7/10).8) Melina vs. Candice, for the Women's title. A fair (if short) match, but IMO the decision to give Candice the title at this point was wrong - she was not ready yet, and Melina is clearly the superior wrestler here (5/10)9) Cena vs. Orton vs. Lashley vs. Mick Foley vs. Booker T, for the WWE title. An entertaining mess, with an almost insultingly predictable outcome (6/10).
wrestlingsitewebmaster Having 9 championship matches on a PPV was overkill, but not in WWE's eyes obviously. Can you believe they were thinking of adding ECW Tag Team belts at one point? Matches ranged from positively awesome to abysmal. Results from the show: Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch downed The Hardyz to retain the WWE tag team belts in a heated match. MVP downed Ric Flair to keep the US title in a decent match. Johnny Nitro beat CM Punk to win the vacant ECW World Championship in a passable match. Edge defeated Batista in a very good match to retain the WWE Championship. Candice Michelle pinned Melina in a passable match to win the Women's title. Santino Marella beat Umaga by DQ in a terrible match, fans hated Marella even though he was supposed to be the face. Duece and Domino defeated the ancient team of Sgt Slaughter and Jimmy Snuka in a poor match (Snuka looked awful). Chavo Guerrero downed Jimmy Wang Yang in a passable contest. John Cena defeated King Booker, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley and Mick Foley in a thrilling match when he nailed Foley with an FU.Nitro replaced Chris Benoit for his match with CM Punk, fans chanted 'We want Benoit' during the match. It's a request WWE could not fill because Benoit killed his wife, his son and himself during the weekend prior to the event.Overall Grade - B/C
kliko400 This was a very interesting PPV, as for the first time in WWE history, all 9 titles would be on the line in one night.FIRST MATCH- LANCE CADE & TREVOR MURDOCH {CHAMPIONS} VS. MATT & JEFF HARDY FOR THE WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP I didn't watch the start off this match, but I saw enough of it to rate it. It was an okay match, but went a bit slow & sloppy. Murdoch & Cade win after nailing their double-team finisher Sweet & Sour on Jeff Hardy to retain their WWE Tag Team titles. 4/10SECOND MATCH- CHAVO GUERRERO {CHAMPION} VS. JIMMY WANG YANG FOR THE WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP I liked the psychology in this match, as it tells the story quite a bit between these two. I was really hoping for Jimmy Wang Yang to win, as Chavo is a disgrace as a champion. Chavo retains his title after a Frog Splash. 5/10THIRD MATCH- SANTINO MARELLA {CHAMPION] VS. UMAGA FOR THE WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP This wasn't really a match, it was more of a beatdown on Marella. Umaga beats Santino Marella at the count of 5 & gets disqualified, resulting Santino to still be the champion. After the match, Umaga nails a Splash from the top, then his finisher the Samoan Spike. 2/10FOURTH MATCH- DEUCE & DOMINO {CHAMPIONS]W/CHERRY VS. JIMMY 'THE SUPERFLY' SNAUKA & SERGAENT SLAUGHTER IN A TAG TEAM OPEN CHALLENGE MATCH FOR THE WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Very sloppy, slow & a bit of a boring match, I would have preferred the Major Brothers instead. Deuce & Domino win after nailing their finisher to retain the WWE Tag Team titles. After the match, Deuce & Domino beat down their opponents, until old time partners {forgot their names] come & clear the champions out of the ring. 2/10FIFTH MATCH- MVP {CHAMPION} VS. RIC FLAIR FOR THE WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP From the duration of the match I saw, it was pretty slow & sloppy, but a bit entertaining, but not that much. MVP retains his US title after hitting Ric Flair with his finishing move the Playmaker. 3/10SIXTH MATCH- CM PUNK VS. JOHNNY NITRO FOR THE VACATED ECW CHAMPIONSHIP IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CHRIS BENOIT VS. CM PUNK, BUT JOHNNY NITRO IS REPLACING BENOIT, AS BENOIT CANNOT COMPETE DUE TO FAMILY EMERGENCIES A short match, but the outcome of it I was surprised, as I would have never imagined Nitro to win the title after nailing his finishing move on CM Punk to win the vacated ECW Championship. 4/10SEVENTH MATCH- EDGE {CHAMPION} VS. BATISTA {CHA IN A LAST CHANCE MATCH FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP IF BATISTA LOST, HE CAN NEVER HAVE A WORLD TITLE SHOT AS LONG EDGE IS THE CHAMPION This was a great entertaining match, it just makes you keep guessing until the end. During the match, Edge tried to retain his title by a countout, but the GM Teddy Long did not allow it. So the match continues as, Batista nails a Batista Bomb on Edge to the outside. Just as he puts Edge in the ring, he gets counted out, losing the match, & losing his title shot as well as Edge is still the World Heavyweight Champion. 5/10EIGHT MATCH- MELINA {CHAMPION} VS. CANDICE MICHELLE FOR THE WWE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP Short match, not really a fan of Diva matches, but thank God that Candice Michelle won, as Melina is the worst champion ever. Candice wins after her spinning kick to become the new WWE Women's Champion. 3/10NINTH MATCH- JOHN CENA {CHAMPION} VS. BOBBY LASHLEY VS. RANDY ORTON VS. MICK FOLEY VS. KING BOOKER IN A OPEN CHALLENGE FOR THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP A great match filled with excitement & also a bit of suspense. Hands down to all these 5 men for pulling a classic Night Of Champions event. John Cena survives dramatically after nailing an FU on Mick Foley for the win & to retain his WWE Championship. 6/10It was an okay event despite it being Night Of Champions as every title was on the line for the first time ever in WWE history. Good event, although some of the matches were rushed & did not take that long, but still an acceptable event.Overall I'll give it 6/10 & a D+
