A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

Despite the fact that they were produced during the same year , "War of the Planets" had nothing whatever in common with "Star Wars". While the former was definitely an "A-Picture", "War of the Planets" is strictly "Grade-Z". The story is nearly incomprehensible, the writing terrible, the acting wooden and the production values about what one would expect in a high-school play. Some cheesy science-fiction films can be so bad that they are entertaining. however, this example of the genre is simply...bad. About all this film accomplishes is to make the viewer appreciate just how good things like "Star Wars", "Star Trek" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" actually were.

BATTLES IN THE STELAR SPACE, a wonderfully scored space opera, has at least a bit of gusto and some sense of fun, though the action seems predictably disjointed and unsure, as if improvised, and it boasts a big—breasted Asian girl; yet much of the clumsiness involved is mindless, needless and graceless—like when the explores leave the ship without their spacesuits, assured that the planet's atmosphere is like the Earth's, etc., the crew seems a bit slow—minded, given the scale of the mission, a bit slow to figure out things, they react slowly and tentatively, while very busy with stating the obvious, and they behave crazily, but that's not necessarily uncommon in this kind of movies. The astronauts land on a planet, a bunch of them carelessly leave the spaceship and begin to act more or less randomly, each according to his cues or whims. Such childishness is less than fun. A Sci—Fi script might nonetheless rise at least a bit above a retard's level. The Italians had an awesome sense of playfulness which managed not to become self—indulgent. An average Sci—Fi movie from the Golden Age of the Italian genre cinema, a time of able rip—offs and free plagiarism, is more enjoyable, thrilling, colorful, exciting and mind—blowing, and also more comic book—like, than any S. TREK episode; but of course the Italians didn't rip off S. TREK, choosing instead worthier American outings.

War Of The Planets is an Italian science fiction production with cheesy special effects and British actor John Richardson as the captain of a future spaceship much like the Enterprise. When earth starts getting some strange signals, Richardson and the crew go outside our solar system and find a rogue planet with humanoid slaves working for a super colossal computer that's now running everything. The machine feeds on psychic energy and the humanoids it has as slaves are running out. That's why it wants to colonize earth and enslave its population. The film tries for special effects like those in 2001, but misses the mark in light years and in the dollars Stanley Kubrick had available. I wouldn't worry too much if you miss this one, earth survived and so will you.

I am not a fan of the idea that a movie can suck so much and be so terrible that it can, or should, be perceived in any way that which is positive but, at least in description this movie is an exception, fore this movie is so STUPID that it is "a movie almost awesome in its badness", to borrow a phrase! They actually sift music from other films, horror movies & documentaries mostly, & remade it with something that sounds like a 1950s synthesizer...to add to the soundtrack, which is probably the best thing about the film ironically...The ending is actually far more climactic than I would even have imagined giving them credit for & is probably the 2nd best thing about the film, and I even concede that the women do look good in their figure-hugging outfits, but (...it's not like they get naked!), nothing is redeemed & there is & shall forever never be no forgiveness for this excruciatingly lame-ass sh!t-pile!!
