SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

fazley asif After a long time writing a review, actually a short one. I thought I have watched almost all great heart wrenching drama about the people around the devastating destruction of WWII. But I guess I was wrong.''De Tweeling'' aka ''Twin Sisters'' is an absolute tear jerker. Story of two orphan twin sisters who were separated at childhood, one lived in Holland living a posh life and other had to live in Germany in a severe abusive atmosphere. WWII came, altered their lives in a most possible devastating way one can imagine. This is a story of love, heartbreak, tragedy and war in an epic proportion. As you can see its based on a worldwide best-seller, its almost impossible to portray and bring up the story in big screen by its level and proportion, they did a very fine job. And perhaps this is the best Dutch production I have seen so far.Don't want to give any spoiler, so I shouldn't go any further I guess. But the actresses performed the twin sisters in different stages of life did excellent job. One of them will remind u the prime period of 'Audre Hepburn' and wouldn't that be extra something !Story evolves from different point of view. It will make you asking the question again and again whether the normal people of Germany really knew what was really going on ? Why did they march under someone as crazy as Hitler ?? Did they really have any other choice ?? I will leave them out for the audience.The choices we make shapes our life and defines who we really are . But under different circumstances, would we make the same kind choices ?? Is it really up to us or we are the victim of our surroundings ?

lastliberal In a nutshell, this Oscar-nominated drama from the Netherlands follows twins Anna (Sina Richardt, Nadja Uhl, Gudrun Okras) and Lotte (Julia Koopmans, Thekla Reuten, Ellen Vogel) who are suddenly orphaned and torn apart in 1920s Germany and sent to live with two different relatives. Anna lives on her uncle's farm in Germany, and Lotte with her rich aunt in Holland. The sisters must struggle to reconcile the differences of their youth when they meet as adults during World War II and again in their old age.It was heartbreaking to see the two sides of the same family running down the other: the farmers calling the others snobs, and the farmers called barbarians; all in front of the children. The farmer's wife even told Anna that Lotte was dead.Despite the cruelty of both families, the girls meet again as young women. The love that was there when they were six has not diminished one bit.Then comes WWII and they are split again over politics and war. Anna ends up marrying an SS Officer (Roman Knizka), while Lotte's fiancé (Jeroen Spitzenberger) is in Auswitch.The sisters broke off contact over events of the war until old age, when they reconciled before Anna's death.An outstanding story of love.Piotr Kukla's cinematography was excellent, as was direction by Ben Sombogaart.

ikke4000 I did not read the book, but the film impressed me very much. A touching story and great acting. There were a few inconsistencies in the movie. That is why I do not give it the ultimate 10 out of 10.It is a real pity it did not get any further at the Oscars. I think it definitely falls into the same category as Character, which won the Oscar for best foreign movie a few years ago.The movie was shown as a 3 part series on Dutch TV around the holiday season. I think it included a few scenes that were deleted from the feature movie. However, the scenes are not necessary to understand the movie. In the Netherlands you can now buy the DVD in several stores for only 6 euro, a super bargain, I would say.
