Truly Dreadful Film

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

Funny to see how a thirteen year old girl written a story about thirteen year old girls. Some do find this trash, I didn't had any problem with it. Having an adolescent at home you can see how wrong it can go. The flick itself of course is seen from the suburbs, and the bad ones. Mother living alone and having a date with a drug addict, have to work at home to earn some money. get the picture? The brother is normal and doesn't have issues, just go surfing with his friends and smoking pot now and then. But it's the sister that has problems. The body starting to transform into a woman and being not that popular due the childish clothing. Once she get friended with the hottie of the school both are out for trouble. Stealing, smoking and using drugs and looking like sluts. The first thing she does is to prove she do can steal. therefor they go to Melrose Avenue. I know the place, back then when it was shot it was the place to be for extreme clothing. But the internet destroyed the Avenue and nowadays (summer 2015) you have seen it in 1 hour, a street full with empty shops, back then you could spend the whole day, a bit like Camden Town in London. From there on it's up to Venice Beach to get piercings in belly and tongue. Let it be shot in the shop were I got my tattoo. It really shows how Venice Beach was and still is. Naturally to be popular with the guys the walk around without a bra and underwear quickly is changed for thongs. At the age of thirteen she even gets her first French kissing and her first cum in her mouth. But still she's not happy and still is cutting her arms with razors and scissors. Of course the two girlfriends are just showing off and at the end the friendship goes terribly wrong. Maybe some do find it exaggerated but I do recognize the fact that some girls want to be popular and do things they regret later. Not bad after all.Gore 0/5 Nudity 0,5/5 Effects 0/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5

Tracy Freeland (Evan Rachel Wood) is a smart, sweet, conscientious 13 year old. She lives with her single recovering addict mom Melanie (Holly Hunter). She befriends popular Evie Zamora (Nikki Reed) who leads down a road of stealing, skipping school, drugs, disobedience, and sex. Her mom struggles to stay in her life but she pulls away in anger. She doesn't like her mother's boyfriend Brady (Jeremy Sisto) either. Evie's home life is even more unstable living with her cousin Brooke (Deborah Kara Unger).Catherine Hardwicke is giving this a spark that is more than an afterschool special dressed up with a lot of edge. It's written with some stories from Nikki Reed's life. ERW is a solid lead with both innocence and rebellion. She shows that she's a compelling actress. Holly Hunter is able to elevate her character beyond the usual clueless parent stereotype. Their relationship is the ultimate heart of the movie.

I have seen this movie countless times and every time I watch it I pick up on a different thing each time, it's so great! Every single actor in this film is amazing, especially Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter, their performances are outstanding. The film brings light to various issues that many teenagers go through and EVERYONE can relate to this. I'm a 17 year old boy and so many of the issues in the film are familiar to me: drugs, sex, eating disorders etc. I've watched some of my friends go through a lot of the things that happen in the film and I myself have had to deal with peer pressure (obviously) and have been curious about alcohol. There's a character that all different types of people can relate to: the single mother, the traumatised teenager, the abused girl, and so many others. What's great about this film is that it's so raw and although a lot of people disagree and say that the film is unrealistic, it's actually one of the most realistic films I've ever watched. Sure, not all teenagers go to the lengths that Tracy and Evie go to but we all crave attention and experiment, whether it be alcohol, drugs, or sex. And I unfortunately know many people who have self-harmed, just like Tracy. This film should be shown in high schools or a parent should watch it with their child and then have a talk with them afterwards. This film can educate teenagers and give them a tough lesson, showing, through the eyes of Tracy, what can go wrong when teenagers go out of control. It will teach them that it's not a good thing to do drugs or self-harm: Tracy is a prime example of why not to do these things. If anyone thinks that this film is unrealistic well then they must be living in a cave because this is one of the most realistic, gritty, raw, and emotional films that you will ever watch. "How else can I say it? I don't speak no other languages." Enjoy!

I've seen this movie twice. It's one of those films that's very entertaining, but not for its intended reasons. It's one of these teen "awareness" movies that tries to scare parents into getting irrational ideas about their own children. However, it fails miserably on account of the story and the characters being completely unrealistic. The story goes that there's a thirteen-year-old girl who does well in school and apparently has a good, moral upbringing despite her family being comically dysfunctional even from the beginning. However, she meets another seventh grader who happens to be the exact representation of what parents don't want their daughters to become. She falls into peer pressure (of course) and starts shoplifting, cursing (oh my), and of course doing drugs. Yes, it's quite cliché when it comes to her downfall. The interesting part comes while she's in this stage, which is when the comedy really begins. I think a huge problem is that it seems very implausible for a seventh grader to be doing most of what she does in this movie. I won't even bother listing everything, but I'll just say it would have been a completely different experience if the girls were maybe, 16.I mentioned the dysfunctional family, which is really an understatement. The girl's mother is possibly the worst mother I've ever seen, and the entire family is really just completely insane it seems. The family is another huge blow the film's realism. It actually reminded me a bit of Visitor Q, hence the title. It's definitely a major exaggeration, but the fact that this would even bring that movie to my mind shows what I'm talking about.Still though, it's entertaining to watch just because of how ridiculous everything is. There's certainly nothing to get out of its message, but watching the family deal with all this stuff at once is mildly entertaining. I'd recommend watching it as a comedy-drama. But actually, Visitor Q is probably even better for that, so just see that instead.
