Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Scarlet
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

i guess this movie is about loss and deficiency that could never be filled with anything. This is typical subject so it is really important how to make a story without leaving a familiar impression. Like I said, it is familiar to me. Because I have read some short s stories reminiscent of this movie. The images of fishes and ocean reminds me of " legend of suicide" written by David Vann and the story of babysitting the baby who does not exist, A short story of William Trevor which I can't remember the name of. So this movie has beautiful scenes and I like watching it but there is no impression on it. And I cannot actually feel sadness for Emmanuel or Linda

The lead actresses deserve 9/10. The story concept 8/10. The whole package 6/10. The symbiotic relationship between the lead characters is realistic and develops quickly. The story line is a bit contrived but does express the characters' deep sense of loss and interdependency. It is very unfortunate that some of that energy is lost during the final symbolic scenes. Instead of leaving a lasting impression, they fall a bit flat. Nevertheless, this film is worth watching for the acting alone. It was impressive that Kaya Scodelario developed such a realistic American accent for the role. It adds another dimension to her excellent acting ability and (like Jessica Biel) she has the natural and very good looks to go with it.

On reading the reviews for this film, I was expecting a slow paced and emotionally confusing story, but having watched this film I feel it has gone hideously unappreciated. The beginning is a little slow, and it's hard to connect to the characters initially, but the bond created between the teenager and woman is both unique and thought provoking. This film has lovely dynamics, and deals with the issues of loss and emotional wellbeing in a very poetic and intricate manner that cannot go unappreciated. I addition to these points, the music is also very well suited. All in all, this story is very quiet, poetic and special, and if you are someone who appreciates the relationship one can build with a film, then definitely waste no more time and watch this.

5 stars for the stunning actresses and one for being ingenious. There is so much potential between the two main characters to develop an intimate relationship (which was also hinted on by the stepmother). But then the movie lifts the obvious awkwardness into the realm of the realistic, destroying the ingenuity and art of the script. Making it just like any other movie.Personally I believe they should just give up on conveying new ideas for the purpose of mainstream entertainment. It just doesn't work. Either you do something great and many will not comprehend it, or you do something average and many will empathize. If the directors had any sense of mainstream creativity, they would have simply cloned the actresses. Like in the Resident Evil series. Many Milla Jovovich > one Milla Jovovich. Many Jessica Biel > one Jessica Biel. It is basic algebra. Though, the main character girl looked pretty attractive too, but the stepmother not really. At least there could be twins. I mean, come on!
