The Thirteenth Floor Audience Reviews

BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Lumsdal Good , But It Is Overrated By Some
Cleveronix A different way of telling a story
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
nikhilshah-21701 this movie has a nice start with a mysterious death of an old man who had time traveled and went inside someone else mind from the past with same characters tics as his. but the concept of the time travel not that believable, hacking into someones mind and whole stimulation of the world but most absurd thing was showing the end of the world which is barricaded by the government without any surveillance and at the end showing the origin of all the living creatures and other tangible things in form of computer stimulation form and their mind working as some semi conductor chip which doesn't makes sense. but as the story goes on it will acquire your interest especially in the part where you know about that there is another world who also know about time travel and they are even superior to them since they can hack the mind of the protagonist and made him to kill that old man who came to know about them. that old man was very good friend of the protagonist so he wanted to tell him about it but was killed. so before that he left a note for a protagonist and expected that he will too come in past in order to enquire about real reason of his death. movie becomes more interesting when the girl who came from future to help them and tell them about another world. as his husband killing people abominably just for fun and has can control the mind of protagonist. overall the movie has a good thrilling story with romantic ending. but some parts of the movies are pretty much new but were very predictable.
gavin6942 Computer scientist Hannon Fuller has discovered something extremely important. He is about to tell the discovery to his colleague, Douglas Hall, but knowing someone is after him, the old man leaves a letter in the computer generated parallel world his company has created.Right off the bat, I have to say how good of a role this is for Vincent D'Onofrio. He has spent much of his career in mediocre roles, but should be praised for the great actor he is. This should go right up alongside "Full Metal Jacket" and "Daredevil".Beyond that, this is a great mind-bending science fiction film, with virtual reality and worlds within worlds. Things may not be as they seem. In a very general sense, it shares some common themes with "Dark City", which came out around the same time. Strangely, "Dark City" is the better known film, though they are equally good science fiction detective stories.
jacklyn_lo "The Thirteenth Floor" is a mix of sci-fi, mystery, spiritual, romance and action. My review is mostly about a spiritual side of the plot. There are 3 main spiritual ideas in the movie: 1. Transfer of consciousness 2. Creation of virtually programmed world 3. Multi-layered realityGlued together these thrilling ideas are working entertaining, but not answering the main question: How the developers of the virtual world created a consciousness? This question is not only non-answered, but it's totally ignored and leading to the number of other doubts: 1. Where the consciousness of the virtual people disappears when an upper-level entities-hosts enter their bodies? 2. How a virtual person remembers what his host has been doing in his body? And so on…We have to remember that creation of consciousness is a sacral magic with access by only ONE- our Spiritual Father. The gang of three from 1990 could build a virtual world, but could NOT create a consciousness, which means they COULD NOT move their own consciousness into the virtual world. The love represented in the plot is hastily done too: a woman from the upper layer is cheating her husband with a virtual character. Her explanation of that - the virtual character is nice, that why she falls in love with him.The movie is ended abruptly without providing any explanation what actually this multilayered "matryoshka" means. There are randomly dropped spiritually fancy words and phrases in the plot such as déjà vu, "not in this life", soul, etc. However, they are not corresponding any further explanations.I have to admit that the "vinaigrette" content has been packaged in entertaining way and probably gained a commercial success, HOWEVER, we have to be aware that trash movies could be far more dangerous than trash loans with more unpredictable and dangerous consequences for humankind. What is a learning message? I guess nobody knows. I m generously rating this movie by 2 stars for entertaining fantasy ONLY.
Tommy SG The story on this movie is amazing, but the only reason I say it was OK, it's because for some reason while I was watching the movie, I felt like I was watching a crappy movie. I'm not sure if it was because of the actors, the production, the mood or what, But I feel this movie could have been illustrated better, specially when it has such an amazing story. When you compare this movie to the matrix, you can see how different they, regardless of how similar the story is and the action effects. The matrix has a more serious and mysterious mood, which makes the movie more interesting, but the thirteen floor, they come and say what's going as if their research project was something very feasible, and not so amazing. They way the story was unraveled was weak, that's my point.
