The Ides of March Audience Reviews

Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
HeadlinesExotic Boring
Borgarkeri A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
mistramicizia The first half of the movie was somewhat promising, but some twists that succeeded I found inexplicable. Furthermore, I'm not quite sure this is the right picture of how politics are (at least from what I hear from other sources), and some scenes just seem to be left "hanging" like they don't affect the further development of the story. I simply feel that this is one relatively confined view on the topic itself. On the other hand, the acting was very well done, everyone played that part beyond average, which is a shame because I didn't buy into the plot itself.DISCLAIMER : Everything stated in this review is entirely matter of personal opinion and doesn't have to coincide with the opinions of other reviewers
masterblaster1975 An upgright guy working for a political campaign makes a few mistakes under stress and sacrifices his integrity to keep his career. Everybody has to pay for his decision. Gut wrenching drama. First class acting all around. A treat to watch, though hard towards the end.
valadas We are on the full campaign in Ohio for the primary nomination for the presidential election in USA. This movie shows us with remarkable realism what goes on in the backstage of the campaign of the Democratic Party in case like it could happen with any other party. The difference between the principles and values publicly proclaimed and what is done behind is enormous. Even an apparently honest candidate is caught in an intrigue plot provoked by a sexual slip blunder of his own that makes him to put aside those good principles and values he has always defended and yield to a blackmail by a collaborator he had fired for supposed treason and now wants to be hired back. Curiously this collaborator begins to be presented as idealistic and supporter of those good values and principles however not to be followed tactically in the campaign as we see. Looks like that the ends justify the means although that same idealist had already been victim of a dirty trick by another member of the candidate staff. All intervenient performers do excellent roles and the story is full of authenticity and well and convincingly shown. Politics is dirty and dishonourable indeed in most cases.
luke-a-mcgowan The Ides of March is a semi-engrossing political drama from the talented minds of George Clooney, Grant Heslov and Beau Willimon. Whilst it never quite engrosses the audience with the same addictiveness that Willimon's House of Cards did, it is still an intriguing ride that is hard to turn off. Clooney's direction is very skillful, with plenty of cold and well chosen shots at key moments in the film.Unfortunately, the acting is probably the film's weakest asset. It is rare that I find the dialogue great but the delivery not up to scratch, but this was one of those times. Clooney's performance is at times a refreshing change of pace from his charismatic nice guy stereotype from every other movie, but without a few key scenes it wouldn't be so refreshing. Gosling is disappointingly bland in what should have been a rich part. Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Phillip Seymour Hoffman do good supporting work, but none of them are at their best nor can they carry the film. The best asset is likely the supporting performance of Evan Rachel Wood, another stellar work for her resume as a youthful and charming intern with a secret or two.I might end up watching the Ides of March again one day, even if I didn't buy the film's ending. I couldn't help but agree with Governor Morris' logic, and if I'd been him I would have just called the bluff and framed it as a fired employee getting back. But its not high class political intrigue, nor is the acting worth cheering. Its just a decent watch.
