if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

I can't really review this film since the copy I got only is about 10 minutes long, obviously a great deal of this film's been lost. Maybe it will be found and restored at some point because it contains the premier performance of one of Australia's best contributions to the cinematic world, Cecil Kellaway.Though originally from South Africa, Cecil Kellaway spent his formative acting years in Australia and came to the USA later on in the decade where he became a respected character actor with two Academy Award nominations to his credit. In The Hayseeds he and Katie Towers play a rustic couple in the Outback whose lives are interrupted by a hiking theatrical company. Hiking I'm told was and is popular in Australia and when you've got so much beautiful country to hike through that seems natural. From what little I saw Kellaway does a good job, the musical numbers are adequate, pale imitations of what our early sound musicals were like. It seems interesting, maybe I'll catch it one day fully restored.
