It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

A skeptical tour guide Penny(Stephanie Greco)is a bit unsettled when she thinks she sees dark figures and hears strange noises in the infamous Whaley House. Penny abuses her position to give several of her friends a private tour. Her friends will conduct some amateur ghost hunting. Things will go bump in the night; strange smells and scary sounds will cause some very stupid and bad decisions. This ghost hunt turns into more horror than imagined. These young people just were not ready to deal with the supernatural. Bodies will start piling up.Not so much a terrible movie, it started out a bit slow before getting spooky. The story was better than average, the dialogue wasn't all that much and the acting was hit and miss. But still the movie is enjoyable. In the cast are: Alex Arleo, Arielle Brachfeld, Carolina Groppa, Jason Owsley, Lynn Lowry, Howard McNair and Graham Denman.Note: Miss Brachfeld has been said that during filming she heard low whispers, felt her hair being pulled and her thighs being touched.

I once visited the Whaley House in Old Town, San Diego, and ordered this film THE HAUNTING OF WHALEY HOUSE from Amazon for that reason. I was immediately disappointed when the interior and exterior of the house did not in the least resemble the actual Whaley House when I took a tour. The original was constructed of brick blocks in the 1850's and did not look spooky in the least. I did listen to the stories told to us by the guides, and mention of these story tidbits did crop up in this fictional film, giving it a touch of authenticity and verisimilitude.I didn't learn until I read reviews on this site that the film had not been shot in the actual Whaley House, even though a bonus extra on the disc showed the director making a comment about being limited by what they could do because they were filming it at an historical landmark. Really? On my WordPress blog some time ago, and on some of the Facebook group sites, including my own, I made a list of my favorite all-time haunted house /ghost story movies. This list included THE UNINVITED (the original), THE HAUNTING (the original), and THE INNOCENTS. Needless to add, this Whaley House film would not make that list. THE QUIET ONES is a much-better film, and THE CONJURING is probably the best haunted house movie in recent years. See those instead of this.

I didn't know what to expect when I saw the title, The Haunting of Whaley House. I lived in San Diego for years so I knew right away the house they were showing wasn't the Whaley House. I have also been inside and the area is lit at night because it is in Old Town. There is always a lot going on in that area. It isn't just the Whaley House that is haunted but all around the area so there are a lot of stories and most of the ones they told about the Whaley's were correct. The thing is they didn't even try to make it look like the Whaley House at all. I doubt they could with the low budget. When you step inside you don't enter a drawing room with a staircase you go right up near the front door. So I recognized it was just the ambiance of the house they were trying to portray and its rumored ghost appearances. I thought the acting was fine for a B-movie with a low budget. People have to start somewhere to hone their craft. Some of it has to fall on the director. I enjoyed the movie though and some things were predictable but I didn't mind. Having known many psychics I really liked the one they portrayed in the movie. The end was the kicker for me from the point where the sun comes up to the very end of the movie. It is enjoyable but not a top of the line horror movie. It is campy and makes you jump here and there. If you want raw entertainment and you like the B level of horror movies you will enjoy this one. I agree with another reviewer that the actors have been under rated.

I never had any problems with B-movies or movies coming from The Asylum as this one did. But this time I didn't like it at all. Nothing really was going on and the acting was bad. When one do get possessed it was a big laugh to see her eyes. It is based on the Whaley House a thing existing in real life but I just couldn't care about it. The only thing I really enjoyed was the gratuitous nudity and even that was maybe a scare because their boobs were as fake as it could be. It's also that scene that contained a bit of blood.Nevertheless, a lot liked this flick but I just couldn't care less. A waist of time and lucky I found it cheap.
