Justine (Lorenza Izzo ) is the daughter of a UN attorney who enjoys privilege and wealth. She joins an activist group to save an indigenous rain forest tribe from developers and the leader of the group has a cult appeal. It also helps her "middle class Jewish guilt." After a "successful" tree chaining, they fly back and run into plane trouble. They crash into the rain forest and the tribe they just saved, thanks them by inviting them to dinner....fat guy first.Yes, this is another fine young cannibal film with severed limbs and a paint the virgin white Bo Derek scene that wasn't as good. Lorenzo Izzo is no Bo Derek, but she can act. There is some interaction in the group, and some nonsense 9-11conspiracy theory stuff thrown in. Haven't seen a good Mondo cannibal film in a while. This one was a bit watered down with a message that misses the mark. I loved the ending.Guide: F-bomb. Brief nudity. Was that Lorenza Izzo or a body double?

The Green Inferno is about a group of activists who has been held captive by a tribe of hungry cannibals after an accidental plane crash. But it is not like the usual movie with cannibalistic hillbillies or the typical movies with psychopathic cannibals. The movie doesn't start with a couple of teenagers going into the woods, have sex and get eaten by a couple of cannibals later on. The Green Inferno is so much more than that. The movie, per se makes more sense than the typical movies with cannibalistic antagonists that we've come to know. The plot of The Green Inferno is brilliant!

From briefly scanning the internet, it appears that Eli Roth has more haters then fans nowadays. Although I remember when his debut Cabin Fever came out and myself and many others adored it. When Hostel came out it wasn't quite the fanfare as Cabin Fever, but I've grown to quite like it over the years. I think he doesn't take himself too seriously, he loves trolling his audience and he's a horror fans filmmaker, or at least he was.The hate for him has evolved into quite something over the years. I can see why, he seems like a self aggrandising narcissist at times. He's also not done anything of worth since Hostel (and a lot of people wouldn't even consider Hostel something of worth).I've still been a defender of Eli Roth, and I also believe his best work is coming. However, It pains me to say this, but I did not like The Green Inferno.In The Green Inferno, Eli Roth tries to recreate the brutality and excess of films like Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox while also trying to skewer Social Justice Warriors. What he actually does, is make his messiest and most amateurish film. The film's message and premise are badly realised and the filmmaking often has the cheap feel of those horrors that reside only in the depths of Netflix.If you want bloodletting this will not disappoint. In fact, the excessive brutality and taboo pushing violence is where the film works. These sequences don't do much to save the film though.Maybe my expectations were too high, but I think the 'haters' were right about this one.

Not every movie has to be a cinematic masterpiece to be enjoyable. I'd been looking forward to watching this one since it's release. I'd missed it's theatrical run due to family commitments and had largely forgotten about it until it was added to Netflix a couple of days ago.It's hard not to enjoy it in my opinion. Yes, the acting is crap but who watches Horror movies of this particular type studying the acting? At it's very core this is an old fashioned adventure movie, the plot is basic but effective. The pace of the film works really well and I did find it to be quite tense and thrilling hoping that at least one character would escape.The movie also delivers on the gore front, the color is absolutely glorious. Vibrant greens contrast with the blood red of the tribe to create a sickening feeling.A final point before I wrap up, I see a lot of comments about the message behind the movie. Slacktivism etc, don't get bogged down in all that. We don't need a profound reason to find a bunch of 20 somethings stranded in the jungle and captured by cannibals, just accept it and strap yourself in!! In the grand scheme of things I think I enjoyed this more than the likes of Cannibal Ferox, Jungle Holocaust etc. Not as good as Cannibal Holocaust though.
