The Godson Audience Reviews

Interesteg What makes it different from others?
Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
Abegail Noëlle While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
jadzia92 Released in 1998, this spoof on The Godfather featured Barbara Crampton. While it was a delight to see Barbara anywhere, The Godson is pretty terrible. Barbara however was pretty goofy as her character here and that was enjoyable to see. Also featuring Lisa London (H.O.T.S.) and Fabiana Udenio. Both gorgeous and I love them very much just like Barbara.Fabiana had been in Bride of Re-Animator in which the bride was Barbara's Fraternity Vacation co-star Kathleen Kinmont & Barbara had been in the first Re-Animator movie. When Barbara and Kathleen did their infamous scene of taking off their bikinis and becoming very naked in Fraternity Vacation, Roger Ebert in his review of Fraternity Vacation wrote the implication that they were behaving like hookers but in Fraternity Vacation itself it was never stated explicitly that they were members of the oldest profession. In The Godson the Barbara character is stated explicity to be a prostitute but disappointingly is not naked in this movie.Quite a contrast of Barbara being naked in Fraternity Vacation and an implication by at least one reviewer Roger Ebert that she was a hooker and in The Godson stated explicitly that she was a prostitute but was not naked in this movie at all!It goes without saying that I definitely prefer Barbara in Fraternity Vacation than in The Godson.
Paul Celano (chelano) Only I was going to put this on my list of worst movies of all time, but Rodney Dangerfield had some great one liners and Dom Deluise was pretty funny as a Godfather rip off. This is a terrible slapstick comedy making fun of the Godfather. The rest of the cast was terrible and not funny at all. Kevin McDonald was the main star and he was really annoying. Fabiana Udenio just couldn't even act in this film. Then you have Lou Ferrigno who thinks he really has an acting career. I wasn't really expecting much when watching this film. But I didn't think it would be this bad. The story was just stupid and the references to other mob type films were really stupid. In fact I felt a bit smarter once the movie was over because it was done and out of my life. Did that sound harsh? OK, then watch the film and let me know what you think. Dangerfield and DeLuise must of been hurting on money because great comedic geniuses like that would of never done this movie. Oh well, I watched it and it is over now.
RichN36 OK here's the deal Late Saturday Night went to the Video Store all the New Movies were Rented or I have Seen it and didn't like it. So I head to the Middle of the Store where the .50 movies are and I take my best shot and go for the Direct to Video Movies or some of the Oldies but Goodies. Its Kind of like Mystery Movie of the Week. Here was this Movie on the Bottom Shelf called "The Godson" being that I am on a Rediscovery of "The Godfather" I picked it up and wasn't hopping for Much just something to kill a Saturday Night. The Plus it did have Dom Deloise and Roddney Dangerfield. I thought it would be fun to watch Comic Masters from the Hey Day of the Johnny Carson Tonight Show years. What I ended up Watching was a Take off of The Godfather and all the bad Gangster Movies of the 80's and 90's a lot of the Jokes were really bad but then some of them were dead on drop down funny. By the middle of the Movie I stoped what I was doing and actually paid attention to the Movie and had a few good Laughs. I liked the Sides to the audiences that started to take place out of the Blue halfway through the Movie. Which was my Favorite Part I am a Sucker for the breaking the third wall on the stage or Screen.OK it could of been a lot better Maybe play it straight and not go for the Low humor that the Movie went to at times. on the other hand some of the Jokes they could of worked more on such as the Mafia University. What a Great Idea they could of made the Movie on that with the same Results toward the End.It was nice to see Roddney Dangerfield again A Comic Mastermind that is gone. If you are still reading this and going on my Recommendation of seeing this movie or not I say give it a Shot if not this Give the Movies in the Middle of the Video Store a chance there are some gems. The Middle of the Video Store is Like a Box of Choclates You never know what you are going to get.
mattymatt4ever I can't lie that I laughed during this movie, but far from how much I expected. First of all, I'd like to establish that even though Rodney Dangerfield has top billing--he only appears in about 20 percent of the film. And he has most of the funny lines. I liked the scene where he came out with a bandage over his pinky finger and said: "I told my wife I hurt my little pinky. She said, 'It's OK. We're not having sex tonight.'"Kevin McDonald is the real star, and gets frightfully annoying at times. He was funny on "Kids in the Hall," but he overacts way way too much in this one. You just want to shoot him with a tranquilizer dart.I thought there was great comic opportunity for a film that spoofs Mafia flicks. But it's totally wasted with such flat gags. For example when they were spoofing the famous scene in "Goodfellas" where Joe Pesci gives that "Do you think I'm funny?" speech. However, the chick they used in that movie is REALLY REALLY hot. But that's no compensation. If she got naked...maybe."The Godson" definitely has its moments. But they're wedged between the most brainless, flat, annoying, sometimes disgusting gags. If those gags weren't torcherous and simply devoid of laughs, I might regard this movie as OK. But those gags are so tedious and mind-numbing that they drown out the few laughs that do exist--so much that I have no choice but to regard it as awful.
