I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

At 18, I love this movie, I grew up with this and the show Alvin and the Chipmunks and love them both to death. I have always loved those lovable chipmunks, but this movie has them at their cutest and most endearing. The story is simple, but it was better like that. The film's simplicity really added to its charm, and the story worked really well with some great ideas. As for the script, one of the film's most delightful assets. The film is really well written, all the jokes work and there are many touching and adventurous moments too.The animation is also very well done, it isn't direct to video quality thankfully, it is bright, colourful and lively. All the characters move with consummate ease and the backgrounds are audacious. The music is absolutely delightful, I was shocked at how good it was. The incidental music was absolutely beautiful and rousing particularly the main theme, but the songs "Diamond Dolls", "My Mother", "Girls of Rock 'n' Roll", "Wooly Bully", "I like you very much" and "Off to See the World" are amazing, especially "My Mother" which was really poignant. The characters are really likable and engaging. Alvin, Theodore and Simon have wonderful personalities, while Elenore, Brittany and Jeanette are equally as likable. David is caring and a perfect father figure, the baby penguin is adorable(sorry I have a thing for penguins) while Miss Miller is a fun supporting character. I was most surprised by the villains Klaus and Claudia, they weren't pantomime, they were very convincing, threatening and fun with a good motive, and their witty banter was most inspiring and amusing. And to top it all, the voice acting was top-notch.Overall, a delightful adventure that I have cherished since childhood. If you haven't seen it already, and decide to give it a chance, I think you will love it. 10/10 Bethany Cox

The popular "Alvin and the Chipmunks" had become a national sensation by 1987 (thanks in large part to NBC's Saturday Morning programming) and the next logical step was a sorry film to capitalize on the fad. And they say that life is not full of surprises. The boys (Alvin, Simon and Theodore) enter a balloon race around the world (ala "Around the World in 80 Days"). The characters and soundtrack were to be the key points in getting tired parents and wide-eyed youngsters in the movie houses, but there were not as many takers as the analysts predicted. The whole concept is way out of its element on the big screen and truthfully the 30-minute cartoons were never much to talk about either. Suitable for the kiddies, but that is about it. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

To this day, there isn't a movie I've seen more times than The Chipmunk Adventure, nor has any movie brought me more happiness. This is by no means the greatest film or even the greatest animated film, but to an 8 year old girl in 1988 it was the coolest, funniest, most exciting film ever! I'm still equally as impressed today with the musical numbers, each one a standout song with wonderfully dramatic lyrics in the epic tradition of 80's pop (think Pat Benetar on helium, only catchier). Controversy has stirred over the blatantly suggestive tone of the Chipette's song "Gettin' Lucky With You", which to me seemed much more innocent at the time. However, looking at it as a rational adult, I can totally understand the concern; you've got three young girls in skimpy harem outfits passionately proclaiming "getting lucky is what it's all about". The Chipettes' were definitely sexualized tenfold for this movie. But this controversial issue doesn't even come close to overshadowing the Chipmunks' otherwise fabulous feature length animated adventure, I encourage parents and childless adults alike to check out this movie. Especially if you were a child of the eighties/early nineties like me. :-)

Its been over 9 years and I still remember one musical number where the Chipette's and Chipmunks both have sing to each other in a battle. I cant remember the song, but do I remember the place and how Eleanor and Jeanette had to hold on to Brittany before she fell out of the balloon and the same with Theodore and Simon to Alvin...man that was such a good movie. To think I saw it when I was 5 or 6 and I still remember it. I couldn't remember the whole plot, but I remember Alvin signing them all up to race around the world in balloons.A great movie for a child and a child at heart. I would even be willing to see it again. And I can assure you that I would still love it. I think I'm gonna go rent it. Just remember: Its a good thing to hold on to your childish roots and enjoy it from time to time.
