A gentleman is here shown partaking of a little lunch of bread and cheese, and occasionally is seen to glance at his morning paper through a reading glass. He suddenly notices that the cheese is a little out of the ordinary, and examines it with his glass. To his horror, he finds it to be alive with mites, and, in disgust, leaves the table. Hundreds of mites resembling crabs are seen scurrying in all directions. A wonderful picture and a subject hitherto unthought of in animated photography. Notable for being the first science film made for the general public.

The Cheese Mites Audience Reviews

ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
Ogosmith Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
boblipton An English gentleman is at his breakfast table, eating some cheese and reading his paper with the aid of a magnifying glass. He turns his attention to the cheese and, with his magnifying glass, sees a myriad of tiny, crab-like cheese mites wandering around his breakfast. Yuck! The IMDb trivia for this Charles Urban short claims this is the first science movie, a claim I find difficult to accept, even though I cannot recall any earlier works that would fit the description. Even if I could, it would not affect the impact of this movie, which must have put its audience off cheese for a few days. I don't know if that was the intended purpose of this film, but if it was, then mission accomplished!
