I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Asad Almond
A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

Crazy silly story, but very enjoyable nonetheless. John Belushi and Dan Akroyd wanna bring THE BAND together again to raise money to save an orphanage from closing. Unfortunately this band gets into trouble with the law and what follows is without a doubt the most outrageous police chase. Even if you cant enjoy the very beginning of the movie please do give the last half an hour a try, because it is truly hilarious with the most bizarre and hilarious car chase in the history of american cinema. Filmed back in the days when there were no cgi or computer effects, so all the cars that crash are REAL crashes. I assure you, that truly enhances the fun A LOT!Besides this legendary car chase the music alone makes this movie worth watching: music performances and acting by Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Arehta Franklin. These are all music legends. Amazing that director John Landis pulled it off to get all those stars into 1 flick like this. There is also a funny appearance at the very end by none other than Steven Spielberg, who never acts in any picture, but did so this time around."The Blues Brothers" gained a cult status decades ago. A cult status doesnt necessarily mean it is a masterpiece, it isnt, but the movie just struck a chord for many weirdos back in the eighties. Music bands have been formed which were inspired by this movie. Special Blues Brothers movie screenings are still regularly being held worldwide, to honor this absurd yet classic music road movie. At those festive blues brothers nights everybody goes wild with booze and drugs. Books have been written about John Landis' cult film. Documentaries have been made to analyse it. It has become bigger than anyone could have imagined back then...But please dont use common sense while watching this absurd music comedy. It does help if you are drunk (or stoned or both), when watching this movie, because it is DELIBERATELY simplistic and silly. Very enjoyable and hilarious nonetheless...

Unfortunately a software bug in the IMDB code doesn't allow me scoring 16 stars instead of just ten, for this epic movie... And I must say that really I never tried to score more than 10 stars here on IMDB, simply because no movie ever reached such a level, IMHO!
The BB is simply a perfect cocktail that cannot be judged with the standard criteria of other movies, it's a magical mixture of musical giant performers, extraordinary comic storyboard, really incredible comic situations and irresistible characters able to produce an over the top legendary experience.
This movie belongs to a sort of celestial sphere, well above the so many perfect packages that Hollywood delivered. Technnically The BB shows many "flaws" and imperfections, even in the editing, but these do not reduce in any way the extraordinary audio-visual & on-soul impact. After watching and loving the movie, we'll discover that Jake and Elwood are really a part of ourselves, they are ourselves with the full load of energy and positive vision towards the live that we (should) have!
I've seen The BB many times, the first two in the Italian Cinema, in 1980, where people really was becaming crazy for it, and when I watch at it again now, I don't see a movie getting older but, on the contrary, a fresh, young, and vivid story of the best we have into our souls. And supplied with a firework of overwhelming joy and memorable blues music.
A suggestion: if you own the DVD (everybody should have it), watch at the bonus content that will tell you a lot about what's behind this extraordinary movie!

This is a cute comedy. Rather slow. And not so much comedy as musical. And the cast is full of singers. But the story is forced. So in the end, this is the Grease for those misunderstood fine people who want to show how special they are. And this is what the movie was built on: this is not disco, but the fine blues that is so trendy. Not to ignore the influences, after all Leningrad Cowboys is a masterpiece and it is clearly made following this story.Contact me with Questions, Comments or Suggestions ryitfork @ bitmail.ch

Who better to revive this awesome franchise than to replace Danny Belushi with that of the "Blues Baller" Bill Murray.Billy Murray & Dan Aykroyd. Not to mention a heavy bit of Chevy Chase in there. It must work, this bunch would make the funniest group of guy's ever.We haven't seen much of truly great films by them in some time. Why can't that time be now? Exactly... It can be now.Give it a thorough thinking-over. This could happen. Looking forward to it as well. Amp up the comedy to their finest days, today.Great movie.
