They were four ordinary lads from Liverpool who became the biggest rock band the world had ever seen. Wherever they went, they won hearts and sold millions of discs and cinema tickets. What was so special about them that they could fill concert halls and airports form Tokyo to New York with thousands of fans? Why did the dream die and what have "The Fab Four" left behind? In short, who were the Beatles and how did they conquer the world? In this program, we look at their progress week by week through the best days of their lives with footage of fans and interviews, destinations and encounters, good times and bad. The Beatle Diaries tells you all you need to know about the significant events of the Fab Four’s glory years. Travel with John, Paul, George and Ringo from their early days in Liverpool to San Francisco, where they played their last concert together.

The Beatles: Liverpool to San Francisco Audience Reviews

Skunkyrate Gripping story with well-crafted characters
Orla Zuniga It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Walter Sloane Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
dbdumonteil WARNING:you won't find here any Beatles music nor even cover versions or instrumentals;the soundtrack is the weakest link of this documentary. So don't expect live performances or studio rehearsals. The main interest of this movie is rare footage with rather interesting interviews ;it often focuses on the Beatles' not-so-high income ("he (Epstein) cheated us !");a whole "chapter" is devoted to Jimmy Nichol who was not able to cope with his return to normal life and went bankrupt the following year;the director seems more interested in the sociological phenomenon than in the music itself (we don't hear anything anyway except for some vague background piano ,guitar or -when they go to India- sitar). The MBE medals ,Lennon's notorious statement about Jesus -with an interview of a member of the KKK!- Ringo's tonsils are included .The title is no misnomer since the movie abruptly ends with Lennon's peace campaign (and a voice over telling us ,we might have forgotten about it,that he was murdered). The "let it be " sessions and the "Abbey Road " album are not mentioned and there's almost nothing about the split:a whole docu should be made about it anyway. This is an interesting document for Beatles fans ;the absence of songs can be off-putting for the others.
