With the help of their high school's newest teacher, four Hispanic students form a robotics club. Although they have no experience, the youths set their sights on a national robotics contest. With $800 and parts scavenged from old cars, they build a robot and compete against reigning champion MIT. Along the way, the students learn not only how to build a robot but something far more important: how to forge bonds that will last a lifetime.

Spare Parts Audience Reviews

Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Anthony El-megerhi I really liked the movie's morals , this movie tells you that everyone has his mission in this life , nobody is useless here , his value might not be noteworthy as for solo work , but it will be remarkable in a team work , and that's what the movie incites us to do or rather shows us ,and how strong and full of surprises the team work is . The movie highlighted on another major point , which is the immigrants , showed us how gainful they might be , and that they are not all alike , a lot of them are genial who love The US more than its natives , and some won't hesitate to help for no return , and how some of them are suffering because the ICE pursues them but they don't want to go back to Mexico because they like The USA , they want to be part of the community , so as i grasp ,the message was to deport the criminals and support the smart and diligent or even the people who want to serve America in any way , the movie attained a huge earnings and i believe it deserved it , i gave this movie 8 because of some expected scenes or moments , but overall the movie worth the 115 minutes .
santiagocosme Spare Parts is probably worth watching. Not from a cinematographic point of view but rather from the perspective of getting to know a story that makes you feel good. A bunch of illegal immigrants join forces to participate in a national robotic contest. They face the toughest schools in the country, with no funding or help, but their determination and smarts compensate for their shortcomings. It won't feel very different from the hundreds of movies you will have probably watched , in which, against all odds, someone overcomes all sort of difficulties, to raise his arms in victory in the end. The typical little man who becomes a hero flick. I tolerated it, but I don't see this as the type of movie that pops in your mind when a friend asks you to recommend a good Weekend watch. Average. That's about it.
Jeff Turner Life is consists of moments going by one at a time. What we choose to do with each moment can cause barely a ripple in the next, or it can completely change our life and the moments yet to be had. When Hollywood is able portray real examples of how such decisions in fact HAVE changed lives for the better, the movie itself has TWO qualities that must be considered. The first of course is the quality of production, script, direction, soundtrack, and so on that makes a movie viable or relegates it to B status. This movie PASSES such standards. Can you pick it apart technically in some regards? What movie can't you? I appreciated the non-patronizing, non-melodramatic script and the low key, down to earth portrayals of people who in fact are High School students and their teachers, not Ghandi or the American Sniper. The second aspect to consider with this movie is the balance of making it so their story can be told though within the constraints of budget allowed or not making it at all. I very happy they did make it and I would recommend it to anyone. Pick it apart to death if you like.. so what? The events really happened, regardless of whether this movie was made or not. yet some will still focus only on the production, and not the story.. sad...
Rageypoo I found the rating of this movie to be over reaching. While the cast was an interesting blend, I just didn't feel much of the characters fit. Lopez didn't feel like he connected at all, and many of the scenes were very forced. I really appreciate that this is a true story, but I felt the acting (or maybe the directing) was just off point. the 5 stars are simply for the story told.I will say Esai Morales, José Julián, and Marisa Tomei did a pretty good job for their roles, they felt believable. I was surprised that Jamie Lee Curtis went for the role she did, while it was completely believable, there were some parts that had me going "really? ...why would she do that?" Carlos PenaVega was believable but the acting fell short in many cases, again forced emotions and sloppy writing for certain situations. Young actors are often caught posing and much like project almanac, often blank or shy smiling in moments that don't call for it.
