Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

We are in England somewhere in the 1610's. In the film Solomon Kane is seen initially to fight in a naval battle being captain in the English navy. Years later we find him settled in a monastery seeking desperately a quite life in the presence of God. After the urge of the local chaplain he is convinced to pay a visit to his old household and meet his father and brother. The English countryside, however, is not a safe place. Villages are ravaged by local bandits who kill and enslave at will. It is clear that Kane tries to avoid any confrontation. During the trip he befriends a family of travelers who aim to reach the local port and take a ship to the New World (America). The movie continues recounting the events till his arrival back at his ancestral home.Solomon Kane was a character in a number of stories written by Robert E. Howard the creator of Conan the Barbarian. Kane was a Puritan, a man driven by a strong religious belief in the power of Good and the necessity to serve justice in a corrupt world. Kane fought in his youth under Sir Francis Drake and then disillusioned perhaps from the violence led a solitary life as a drifter in continental Europe and Africa. The film was a pleasant surprise for me. Kane is depicted as a troubled man with a strong urge to serve justice with a religious fervor. His Puritan upbringing coupled with his military past make him a very interesting character. A very good film that made me want to read some of the Kane stories of Robert Howard.

Before Hero films took off their were smaller budget movies. Before the bandwagon happened their was Solomon Kane.It's based on comic but I will keep it to the movie. This movie, clearly done on a lower budget, but still top notch story and bad guys and superb script based on the budget. This is a must see if anyone wants a hero film and gets tired of the band-wagoners.Watch this movie, but remember it is not a high budget, so yes we can nitpick, but watch this movie in context and enjoy it as a sci-fi, fantasy comic book movie with a great hero and slight twisty villain.10 out of 10 if watched with open mind and remembered the budget.

Wow,James Purefoy nailed it. I feel obliged to write a review here as this movie seems to be overlooked at every turn,which just seems wrong. After consuming all of Howard's Conan stories I searched for more and that is where I found Solomon Kane.i never expected to see his exploits on screen,yet here we are,with a magnificent James Purefoy in the role. People have mentioned how much he resembled Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing,but sorry folks,Solomon was here first and this flick does him the honor he deserves.The movie is beautiful,scenes of forests and snowy fields are gorgeous,doesn't look cheap for a second.The costumes, sets and makeup are great,yes,I could have done without the CGI near the end,but the rest of the flick delivers in spades. Purefoy just gets the part,it was page brought to life like few others I have seen,he is electrifying as Solomon,the West Country accent,the Puritanism,the badassery...all of it. When he 'becomes' Solomon? Boy.... It's amazing. Well done to all involved,I love the movie,you did Howard proud.

This was a good one. It's worth seeing if your local video store has it. One of the attributes of the character is pretty much standard. A guy that has seen too much violence in his life and decides to make a break from it and take the path of righteousness. He's not a complex character. You'll not spend the entire film trying to figure out why he does what he does. Sibling rivalry does enter into the movie ( you'll just have to watch it). Some of the characters in the movie have the ," he's just a has been. Don't put your faith in him". While other characters in the movie have the ,"Solomon.We're all counting on you to deliver us from evil",opinion. You kinda feel bad for the guy. He makes an honest attempt at redemption,but it don't quite pan out. It also has the "save the damsel in distress" option added on here. Fairly typical,but like I said ," the mans trying to redeem himself".
