That was an excellent one.

n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

Pretty good movie. I did not expect it to be in Spanish, but it was, so I had to read thru out the movie, but it was pretty good. I liked the message of the movie especially me being a computer geek & all. I like technology & I have been using it since the Commodore 64 & Apple II & TRS-80 days, you know BBS then CompuServe 2400 baud modems, but I do not think that we should go all tech, but only some & without damaging our living earth because if the earth stays healthy & alive, then so do we. I use Technology as a tool others think of tech as the end all & I think us the earth & tech can get along. Plus I to build on to our earth & never damage our earth with our advancements because that is not what any of us with good sense want. We want harmony between tech, humans & the earth & future tech & with a-future nature to use it for good, to help people & not to hurt people like most Sci-Fi movies that I have saw.. I hope in the future that people can live where they choose & not be judged by there ethnicity, language barriers or how much money one has because that to me does not matter & will never matter. I will always be for humans & all of them & not a selected few. Great message & great Movie. Go Watch It!

Why so bold, you may ask? Wasn't this just another one of those weak independent movies (and in Spanish to boot)? Well, no. I love sci-fi as anyone will tell you, and I especially love it when it really it just that. This is not Hollywood's version of sci-fi at all. Check out recent movies like "I Robot" and "Surrogates" for that stuff. This is more in the vein of "Blade Runner"... and no I'm not the first reviewer to point this out. The movie itself is based on a potential future possibility, even something that is starting to happen as I speak. The main theme of the movie is loss. The water that used to be free: lost. One's privacy in the hands of people we merely speak to: lost. Dignity: lost. The hope for those living beyond the borders of the United States that they may one day live there freely: lost.To me, these things are already happening, in the works, or very likely/possible. That makes this movie true sci-fi. Not that there is the merest glimmer of a robot, or that people are plugging themselves into computers.A rare treat for true sci-fi enthusiasts.

Good movie. Entertaining. Worth the time. It's no Blade Runner, but there are a lot of ideas at play, lots to mentally chew on. The "south of the border" POV works really well. And I liked the way the director didn't simply announce what year we were in and instead let us figure it out for ourselves. The details of the world all felt realistic and inevitable, like that's the way we're going technologically and socially. The lead actors were good, but a bit too old, looked like they were closer to 30ish when, for the story's sake, they should have been in their late teens or early 20s. The lead actress is beautiful but simply doesn't look Mexican (not Oaxacan at any rate). More like South American. The worst part was the special FX and animation. They look cheap. Which is a shame and doesn't do the rest of the film justice. Too bad the director didn't have a few million more bucks to spend on the FX and marketing, because this film deserves a look.

Alex Rivera's film, SLEEP DEALER, deftly examines and scrutinizes America's current obsession over the economic relationship with our neighbors to the South. Just over the Texas border, we watch as poor workers assemble at large industrial warehouses, and then are neurally interfaced with remote manipulators which allow them to perform much needed labor for America's industrial behemoth far to the north. As one of the characters in the film remarks, "We give the United States what they've always wanted, all the work-without the workers." The film is kind of a science fiction tale, but much of the technology is in use today. In the movie, American military operators remotely patrol and protect the US/Mexican border in far removed bases. Our present day 'War On Terror' employs this same technology as CIA agents in Langley, Virginia routinely operate remotely controlled drone jets to destroy individuals and targets in Afghanistan. One of the key themes of SLEEP DEALER is how these remote operators can be negatively impacted by their actions. SLEEP DEALER is a terrific 'first film' which ably tackles the themes of Power, Class, and The Distribution of Wealth in the emerging Global Economy of the 21st Century. Also, be sure to check out 'The Making Of' in the Bonus Features. You can see how the film evolved from simple drawings and story boards into the final product.
