Sightseers Audience Reviews

Matylda Swan It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
Alistair Olson After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Wyatt There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
rdoyle29 Chris & Tina are a schlubby couple who go on a road trip in a camper to see some sights in Northern England. They have not dated for more than a few months, so this is kind of a get-to-really-know-each-other-better trip. What Tina comes to know is that Chris is a serial killer. He has definite opinions about acceptable behavior and tends to murder those that fail the test. Tina not only accepts this, she turns out to be even better at it than Chris. A very dark comedy co-written by Alice Lowe and Steve Oram who play Chris & Tina. It has a tendency to veer from dark social satire right into horror film territory with some very gory deaths.
areatw 'Sightseers' was nothing like I had expected and I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. The movie is genuinely hilarious in parts with some very British and very dark humour, perfect for those who loved classics like Shaun of the Dead. The two main characters, Tina and Chris, complement each other perfectly and there is a natural on-screen chemistry between the two. They are also relatable and strangely likable, despite what they get up to. The movie is well directed and the script is just brilliant, especially the ending. This is my sort of comedy movie and if you're anything like me, you'll love 'Sightseers'.
djangozelf-12351 It starts out with a woman going on a caravan holiday with her love interest. She has a hard time leaving her bossy mum and doesn't seem to have much of a life of her own. This part of the movie takes way to long and one of the first "funny moments" is her saying mum for about thirty times before she gets a reaction. This reminded me of a family guy episode and there it was done way better. The first (accidental) kill is somewhat stupid and strangely enough the police lets them go on their way with out any real investigation or even advising them to stay in the place where this all happened. It is convenience plots all the way thru and most of their actions just don't make sense and a lot of it is also repetitive. It's like the sociopath version of love story where the love part has been changed to a kinky sex relation which seems to be their answer to any relational problem they have in this movie. Some of the scenery was nice, the actors weren't that bad but the story takes it all down by over simplifying everything and still leaving you with a feeling that it's all not very realistic.I recommend you see it once, just don't expect to much of it.Noticed it won some prices.Must have been a slow year.
Theo Robertson Every year a director comes along and he's heralded as "The saviour of the British film industry" . Sometimes the hype does come true such as Danny Boyle when he released his low budgets hits SHALLOW GRAVE and TRAINSPOTTING but always an up and coming director appears on the horizon then disappears again . A decade ago it was Shane Meadows and in the last four or five years it was the turn of Ben Wheatley who carry the "He's gonna save the British film industry" torch. Well to be fair Ben has an upcoming film coming out later this year called HIGH RISE with a relatively intriguing and well known cast and one hopes that HIGH RISE is cinematic unlike SIGHTSEERS I've got to be honest here and say the entire look of this movie lets down whatever story there is here . That said it is produced by Channel 4 films which means it has at least one eye on merely being produced for and watched on television but wasn't SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE also produced by Channel 4 ? See how cinematic that ended up as . Here with SIGHTSEERS the lack of budget and ambition means you're watching something rather flat in cinematic terms . The performances are flat as are the darkly comic lines which sort of sabotages the whole point of the film . In summary if you didn't like Wheatley's previous film DOWN TERRACE you probably won't like this one either
