Info

Like the hit album that inspires its name, Supernatural Live brings journeyman guitarist Carlos Santana back into the mainstream by surrounding him with younger superstars eager to bask in his formidable musical presence. Resuscitating stardom through sheer proximity can translate to forced pairings or superfluous music making, but credit Santana himself with minimizing such missteps. A fusion artist before the term was coined, the erstwhile Mexican street musician long ago extended his technical reach and broadened his stylistic palette by hungrily assimilating different styles of music. Accordingly, he shifts gears easily, whether soloing behind Dave Matthews, trading lines with legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter, or spicing up a hip-hop excursion with Lauryn Hill.

Santana: Supernatural Live Audience Reviews

Harockerce What a beautiful movie!
Tetrady not as good as all the hype
pointyfilippa The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Blueghost This is probably the best concert DVD I have in my collection. The renowned Carlos Santana collects musicians of various genres and asks them to perform with him live on stage at the Fillmore. It's a celebration of cultural diversity through the exposition of heart felt music.Santana and his partners in harmony play past favorites as well as debut a couple of new pieces written by the guest performers. I'm not a big fan of rap. My rap-roots date back to 1979 and early 80's when Debbie Harry of Blondie popularized Melle Mel's and others' genre with "Rapture." Beyond that, I don't care for the stuff. BUT, I've never seen such heart and soul go into a rendition of "Maria Maria" as when I saw The Product G&B (a rap duo) sing and rap to Santana's rifts. It's my favorite piece on this very entertaining and welcome DVD. Excellent stuff.Extra's include some behind the scenes footage of Santana and his musical guests rehearsing for the coming show, a mini documentary (or featurette) of Santana and those close to him discussing the genesis of the project, and an art gallery with Santana talking about his artistry and feelings. If you like guitar, classic and modern, like a mixture of music (with Latin and African influences), or even if you just like Santana, then this DVD is for you. It's music that doesn't fade. Also check out "Sacred Fire Live in Mexico," showcasing a lot of the Bay Area's local musical talent on the international stage.
Samuel Cohen Available in Israel for 3-7 USD This very good DVD Shows Carlos Santana and Friends. Carlos is still at his Best and not too Old like Doco's of other Artists Selling Now. I liked it so much I bought a second one for a Friend on her Birthday.
