It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

Don't know how I have missed this before, but I am glad that found this one to see before lost in the "old movies not to watch" category.Plot is very simple, but that is why it makes this so good and effecting. I can easily see myself in Frank's shoes in the future.Frank is a bitter old man who doesn't see his family enough and likes to be alone away from other people. That is until his son gets him a assistant robot to take care of him, even tho' Frank resists that in the beginning.Story moves in a good pace and it doesn't take that much time until Frank discovers the robot could help him with something from the way past. It's a little sad that the movie ends so soon, kinda felt it misses something from the end, but maybe that is just a good thing.

f you're like me and base a lot off of previews then you'd know this looked great regardless of all the mixed reviews. I came to this late but everything about Robot & Frank is irresistible. It's a very different take on science fiction and robotics. I found it to be enjoyable from beginning to end. The chemistry between the old man and the robot was spot on. One of the highlights for me were the comedic scenes between Frank and the robot and I would recommend seeing this movie for those scenes. It made me believe that an automaton and a human being can be complicated friends. The robot serves as a reminder of the human condition and how we all grow old. Everybody needs a friend. The plot is simple, beautifully done and very moving. The cast are convincing with understated performances.Great movie, with a touching story.

You'd think they had literally no funding to begin with, if they're willingly going with such a cheap, lousy-looking children's halloween costume-grade "robot" suit. When I heard Honda's ASIMO was the inspiration for the robot, I figured it wouldn't be too difficult or expensive to build a similarly-looking costume and put a child or a short person in it. I guess they've decided to go with the most fake, cheapest excuse for a robot suit ever, and you instantly know there's a person inside by the natural way that they move, and by how flimsy and cheap the suit is.You'd think they'd care about how their second main character looks. The acting isn't bad in any way, but when it comes to plot, it's long, boring, and sad. And not sad in a touching way, just forcefully sad to evoke an emotion in the viewers and trick them into thinking that they're watching something decent.I ended up not finishing watching it because it's moving at a ridiculously slow pace, while bringing nothing interesting to the plot. They've really been desperate to stretch the concept of "a dementia-riddled old person who has a robot he didn't want" over a whole movie. Not worth the watch.

I have to say that the film's premise of an 'old guy and a robot' didn't really grab me. I preferred the all-out action of 'I Robot.' However, now I've watched it, I found I actually liked it.In the near future, our aging hero 'Frank' is given a robot to look after him by his family. Frank is naturally grumpy and the two don't really get along. If it was left as that, it probably would have been pretty dull. But, what brings the story to life is the fact that Frank is a habitual thief, so, with his newfound 'toy,' he decides to train it to help him pull of some jobs. There is some very dry humour in all this, plus you actually will care about the characters, even the robot, who comes across as 'more alive' than most daytime TV stars. It's certainly not an 'all-out action' epic. It's far more subtle, rolling along at a deliberately slow pace. So, you probably have to be in the mood for something a little more gentle to fully appreciate this.I now want my own robot. All I have is a 'Speak and Spell' from the eighties that doesn't work any more.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
