Ricky Gervais: Humanity Audience Reviews

Diagonaldi Very well executed
SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Hazelwoc In a way Ricky is around 40 years too late, his comedy is blunt, forceful and controversial, and comparisons with someone like Peter Cook are not misplaced.Underneath the awkward exterior lies a thoughtful and angry man. Which for comedy is good. Invariably and ironically some people will miss the point of this show. He is using the vehicle of comedy to illustrate that our opinions and beliefs which lead us to laugh or be offended vary from person to person. It is this which is the basis for our humanity because it governs who we are and what we do. This show is not about him but about his audience, and if it makes us think a little about who we are then all the better.
bratto "If I say I'm a chimp, then I am a chimp" is problematic. First, talk to a gender specialist. They will tell you gender is in the mind. The species to which one belongs is not. The chromosome argument doesn't apply, either, as there are all kinds of exceptions. Here's the thing: would he dare to use the "n" word to make fun of black people? I very much doubt it (Bill Maher just recently got in trouble for it). But the transgender community is an easier target, and simply comparing belonging to a gender different from the one you show with thinking that you're a chimp is not only offensive but it is downright destructive.
kooka71 The Twitter put downs were good, but including child cancer in material shows he is reliant too much on shock. He seriously has some issues I think.
kofila First of all - I'm a huge Ricky Gervais fan - I've watched most of the stuff he and Smerchant wrote/produced/starred in and this must be the worst thing of all that. The most alarming to me was that Ricky seems to be living in some sort of pre-internet, no memory land as he thinks audience is unfamiliar with the Golden Globes, US talk shows, and even his old shows. I was shocked as I recognized about 80% of Rick's stuff on this show. The rest just felt old anyway... Jokes that consist of explaining old jokes he told somewhere else.. Jokes about sagging balls.. It just all felt like Rick found some kind of TV archive (including his shows) and thought: "Hey, that's good and no one will probably remember!" The other thing was Ricky's persona on this show. He tried to fit himself in a role of this exalted explainer and mesiah talking about his dull observations that many made before him and maybe in a funnier way, too. It just all felt a bit too self-satisfied and over-confident. Not impressed...
