popcorninhell Originally titled Rat Fink and Boo Boo, the filmmaker Ray Dennis Steckler discovered the misspelled title animation and left it that way because, shrug, he didn't care anymore. If you come into this film with the exact same attitude you may just come out of it with a modicum of joy. The film follows three greaser youths Linc (George Caldwell), Hammer (Mike Kannon) and Benjie (James Bowie) as they stir trouble around the neighborhood. They abduct a young lady (Carolyn Brandt) the girlfriend to rock n roll star Lonnie Lord (Ron Haydock). When hearing the news Lonnie and his janitor pal (Titus Moede) run into a room and burst out moments later as makeshift heroes Rat Pfink and Boo Boo. The rest of the film is largely padded with goofy fight sequences, park side tumbling and a slap-dashed side story involving an escaped gorilla.Rat Pfink a Boo Boo feels like an improv game gone horribly off the rails. Our two heroes at first act like your average B-movie players but as soon as they come out of the room in costume, the consequences of everything simply melts away in a puff of cartoony smoke. The movie reaches full-charged silliness with the appearance of the gorilla which is laughingly played by a guy in a rented costume. I will give this movie one thing; at 72 minutes, at least it's energetic. Kind of like a group of screaming children playing in a sandbox.

mikelcat Let me start by saying I like Steckler ,but the best films he was involved in were those made by Arch Hall Sr. His best role in my opinion was that of Steak in the ''Wild Guitar '' . Most of his directorial efforts were nonsensical fun and thats cool , he got to put his girlfriend / wife and his friends in his films and have some fun too ! He was also good in the film were he plays the escaped killer and seems to have had a knack for playing the heavy . As far as ''Rat Pfink a Boo-Boo'' , well what can you say ? It was clearly meant to read ''Rat Pfink AND Boo-Boo '' although I'm told Steckler denies this now , the line is used in the film to introduce them !!! Its harmless fun , but strictly grade z .

PaulyC Although this super hero spoof is kind of a mess it does have some amusing moments. It starts off as a serious film then changes gears very suddenly. I don't know if this method of film-making worked for me but a lot of people seem to find this movie a pretty good one. As with a lot of Steckler movies, it is well photographed and looks like a bigger budget movie then what it is. The characters Rat Phink and Boo Boo kind of come out of nowhere but they do have some funny moments. One thing I thought was funny was that even though they are chasing kidnappers in their motorcycle to save a girls life, they stop at every stop sign and look both ways because they are the "good guys". An uneven film with some funny moments.

jjjjjjjjjjjjj-4 In the early '80s I had the misfortune to spend a full day with Mr. Steckler and his movies in a college classroom. Included was RAT PFINK A BOO BOO. As well as filming some of the worst music videos of all time, including the unwatchable first video of the Jefferson Airplane (circa '68 I believe), he is the only person to make an airshow by the USAF Thunderbirds appear to be boring. His "Star" & girlfriend, Carolyn Brandt, is a narcoleptic "singer" who appears in his films randomly and without any notable connection to plot. The real crime of Steckler's films is the total lack of fun. They are boring. Every element of his film-making is either trite or lacking any connection to concept. He doesn't appear to really like to make movies. My impression was that it is compulsion rather than desire that drove him to film. Do yourself a favor and avoid any of his films unless you are trying to get rid of unwelcome guests in your home.
