Ransom Audience Reviews

Redwarmin This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Joanna Mccarty Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
OneEightNine Media Yeah, this is a throwaway thriller from back in the days but it aged well. It is about a rich guy who's son gets kidnapped and held for ransom. But the tables turn when the rich guy offers the ransom as a bounty. Mel Gibson makes this movie work. His intensity and high- level acting pushes what should have been an average thriller over the top. Would I not recommend hunting this film down just to watch it but if it was on television and you had nothing better to do, it is a relatively good waste of time.
theCoffeeGirl I've seen a lot of ransom films so I thought this one with its generic vanilla-name "Ransom" would be the most generic of them all. To my surprise it wasn't generic at all.In most ransom films the criminals are evil, the good guys are innocent and the police/FBI are there to help. It really is good-vs-evil, black and white. In most ransom films the victim's family are just that victims, while the police/FBI agents are the ones that save the day. Sometimes the hostage's family try things their own way, almost ruining the whole thing with their emotional stupidity. The family is just there to get in the way of the FBI. Really, it's just a show about the FBI in most films. But this isn't most films. The family is not some completely innocent family for our good-vs-evil story. The dad runs a shady business and is being investigated by the FBI. The cops? One of the cops is part of the gang of captors himself. Instead of the family messing up we have the FBI messing up by shooting and killing one of the captors at a money drop. Instead of the family crying on TV, pleading with the captors for mercy we have them going on national television offering a price on the head of the captors. I'm pretty sure that's illegal and any network would cut to commercials rather than risk liability, but it was cool as hell. He lays down the cash on the table, 2 million dollars as reward, and leverages the power of the people, the country with the most armed populace in the world, against the kidnappers. There are so many ways this could go wrong (people killing any random dad with any random kid and calling for the reward), but I can suspend my disbelief for an original idea.I rate this film 7.7/10, a star above its current rating on IMDb.
OllieSuave-007 Ransom is an intense and edge-of-your-seat crime thriller from to start to finish, about millionaire Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson) whose son Sean (Brawley Nolte) is kidnapped. As a result, he utilizes a clever method to get his son back. This movie cuts to the chase with story elements that grab your attention right away with its fast-paced plot and intriguing acting, making you eager to find out what highs and lows Tom will go through to recover his son (just wished the filmmakers elaborated Rene Russo's mother role more). And, this film gives you a taste of drama and consequences what being a millionaire might lead to, and gives you a mind-boggling twist on the kidnapper's sinister plans. It's a kidnapper movie with a unique and solid twist - good film to watch for a weekend activity! Grade B+
FlashCallahan Tom Mullen has it all, a happy family, success and wealth. One day during a conference at the park, his son goes missing.By the time he arrives home, he receives a video-taped message of his son, who has been kidnapped. He is willing to pay the ransom, but he calls the FBI in secret. When the drop goes bad, Tom tries another tactic against the criminals, using the money as a bounty on their heads...A wonderfully high concept movie, this was released when Gibson was one of the biggest stars in the world, and this has to be one of his most adult orientated movies of the nineties, as the majority of his non-directed movies focused more on his charm and wit.For the most part, it's a solid movie, with great performance from the four central characters, and Howard keeps the tension taut throughout the movie. As Hollywood blockbusters go, it's refreshing to see something as dark and as sinister as this, and some of the scenes here are very disturbing, and Sinise proves he can play one disturbing bad guy, as well as a wholesome good guy.It falters off into generic action territory come the end, but all in all, it's nice to see a movie as high profile as this, not spoon feeding the audience.
