Rad Audience Reviews

GazerRise Fantastic!
Micah Lloyd Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
Wizard-8 I feel that I should first of all reveal that I was a teenager (the target audience) when this movie was first released, but even as a youth the movie struck me as being something stupid. In the years that followed, I kept hearing over and over positive remarks about the movie from people like me who grew up in the '80s. So when I stumbled upon a copy of this movie at a thrift store recently, I thought I would finally give it a chance. Let's just say that when it came to this movie, my younger self was a lot smarter. First of all, the central plot is completely unoriginal - it's the standard underdog struggling against sabotage and other challenges to prove himself story, complete with characters you've also seen before (the spunky kid sister, the disapproving parent who eventually changes her opinion, etc.) What is worse is that this particular telling is especially slow, even though the movie was clearly cut down in the editing room to try and speed things up (which does lead to some unclear details.) But what about the BMX stuff, you may be asking. Well, while there are a handful of (mildly) impressive stunts here and there, I actually found most of the BMX stuff boring, despite the movie being filmed by a former stuntman. BMX doesn't have the speed of motorcycle racing, nor does it have the especially dangerous aspect of skateboarding. It's flat stuff, even in the so- called "Helltrack" climax. It's no wonder the distributor of this movie only gave it a limited theatrical release, and probably also explains why the current rights holders of the movie have not given the movie a DVD or Blu-ray release.
duketate1 When you see the names Lori Laughlin and Talia Shire in the credits, you know you're watching a real gem.I am serious, this movie embodies all things 80. From the name on. First of all, check out the soundtrack. The music by John Farnham "Break The Ice" & "Thunder in Your Heart" and then "Send Me An Angel" by Real Life and "Music that you Can Dance to" by the Sparks are worth watching the movie for alone. Then, consider most of these songs involve BMX sequences or BMX dances!!! Take it from me people, life doesn't get much better than this movie. You got the preppy good, but poor guy "Cru" & the preppy bad, but rich guy "Bart Taylor" and the Bart's ex girl Lori plays and a competition called Helltrack at the end.The best scene in this movie is when Lori Laughlin and Cru start to BMX boogie to "Send Me An Angel" (you'll remember this one from the roller rink) and they interrupt Bart Taylor dancing to "Music You Can Dance To" and Bart with his blonde hair swooshing in front of his face like Tom Cruise in Risky Business says, "You could have at least waited til I was done dancing." Classic.Final word: its a crying shame this movie isn't on DVD, but there's a petition!!!! Go sign it!
view_and_review Well before X Games was even thought of or heard of "Rad" was in theaters. I was young when the movie came out and my memory of the entire movie is a bit hazy, but what I do remember was good. As young as I was when I watched it I would not have known good acting from bad, but I remember the cool stunts he was trying and his determination to do the back flip on the bike (which is a standard stunt now). Also, how could anyone forget the scene from the school dance where he did variable stunts to the song "Give me an Angel".Rad is most likely a cult classic if it is anything at all, very few have watched it and probably even fewer will remember it. It is another iconic symbol of the great 80's.
cool_cool_1 Rad (1986) is a really good movie, brings back memories of the 80's BMX craze, this is by far the best BMX movie made, BMX Bandits sucked!! The story is about this local BMX rider Cru Jones who enters a top class BMX competition called "HELLTRACK" with all the best BMX riders in the world, the HELLTRACK riders have all got massive sponsorship but Cru has to battle and fight just to enter the competition and get suitable sponsorship, will Cru manage to get into the competition and can he do the unthinkable and WIN!!! I give this movie 8/10, it's entertaining and fast paced with good racing action and a great soundtrack too, if you love the 80's then i highly recommend it for nostalgic value.
