everything you have heard about this movie is true.

Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Listen, I'm a sucker for films like this even if they are a bit Corny. I can often forgive a lot if they're at least entertaining. So often, I want nothing more than to just shut my brain off and watch something simple and goofy. RIPD falls into that exact category. The plot, premise and so much of the story in this is goofy but fun. The acting is a bit over-the-top but enjoyable. The score fits and it's shot well. The FXs are super cartoon and CGI, but work (think Men In Black) Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds have a good chemistry and Kevin Bacon works as the asshole I'm not saying this is a good film by any means. I also 100% understand why people don't or won't like it, but I find it enjoyable for what it is. For me, it harkens back to the Sword & Sorcery films of the 80's, same idea in on the enjoyability level. If you like these types of films, you'll probably enjoy this one and can take it for what it is. If that's not your cup of tea, then it's a good idea to skip this one.My Rating: 5/10

Surprisingly, this was more enjoyable than I anticipated. Yes, the dialogue is crap. Yes, the humor is downright silly. I just don't know exactly why I found this as entertaining as I did. Maybe it was the amazing visual effects. Maybe it was the unique story. Maybe it was the 'City of Angels'-ish love story. Maybe it was the devilishly handsome Ryan Reynolds. Whatever it was, it worked for me and I enjoyed this. (The usually good Jeff Bridges was annoying, though.)

RIPD has got to be the dumbest, stupidest, irreverent...did I say dumbest...and funny comedy I've seen in ages...It was never supposed to be a blockbuster, I don't think, but it is a respectable jaunt into the ridiculous fantasy world of life after death...with some weird zombie type monsters thrown in for flavor...some of the prat falls are truly bizarre, but they just add to the humorous nature of the "out there" story. Reynolds and Bridges are death cops of sorts, with the responsibility to keep the evil zombies from taking over the world...etcetera etcetera...Awww heck, take a chance and see this one...it really is a fun two hours...

Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, and Kevin Bacon star in "RIPD" from 2013.The story concerns a Boston cop, Nick (Reynolds) who, along with his partner Hayes (Bacon)discover a cache of gold while busting drug- dealers. Nick buries his, and then decides against stealing. He informs Hayes that he is going to turn in the gold as evidence from the bust, but he won't mention that Hayes committed theft as well.Well we all know what's going to happen and sure enough, as soon as it can look like a shooting while bringing down a vicious gang, Hayes lets Nick have it. Nick leaves behind his wife, Julia (Stephanie Szostak). Nick is sucked up into a vortex and finds himself in front of a Proctor (Mary Louise Parker) - he's still in uniform. She informs him that he's a member now of R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department), Boston division. His assignment is to pair up with Roy (Jeff Bridges) - obviously once a cop in the old, wild west - and go hunting for undeads, evil people who actually died but haven't yet descended and are sticking around. They wear disguises so they don't look dead.Nick, of course, would also like to bring down Hayes and check on his wife. He and Roy have avatars also so that people can see them, but not as themselves. Roy is a gorgeous blonde (Marisa Miller, in real life a Victoria's Secret model) and Nick is an old Asian American (James Hong).Silly movie, predictable, but a decent rental. There were a couple of good scenes - one was Nick going into the vortex, another was the dead cops chasing of one of the undeads, who is wreaking havoc on the city. On the slapsticky side, but okay.
