Put the Needle on the Record Audience Reviews

StunnaKrypto Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
Peereddi I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.
Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
L9 (LnineB) Just because it didn't make reference to drugs doesn't make it a good representation of electronic music. All the awards it won shows that the people who pick the winners know nothing about the subject matter of these documentaries. This movie is more about Miami party culture and the global commercialization of American Electronic music. The roots, history and soul of EDM is glossed over in order to present a "pie in the sky" industry that music execs and some DJ's hope for. The mention of money and how much such and such DJ makes or made is presented more than what makes EDM survive underground for so long. There's little to no mention of Chicago House, Detroit Techno or the Huge underground scene in Europe or Germany! What's worse is the interviews of some of the Dj's. Quote," Techno is the newer style, more emotional? Wrong Techno is one of the oldest styles of Electronic music . Quote, "DnB is the punk rock of House music",,, This doesn't even make sense. Did he mean DnB is to Electronic music what Punk Rock was to Rock n-Roll? Anyway, for anyone that is interested in Truly learning about Electronic music Please avoid this Documentarty!
jasonrem – BILLBOARD MAGAZINE "It was made to be seen big and heard loud."MTV "If electronic music's your thing, look no further than "Put the Needle on the Record."LOS ANGELES TIMES "It's the mainstream sound of youth." URB MAGAZINE "These producers did it right, capturing the most complete and professionally executed video document of the dance music scene" LOS ANGELES CITY BEAT MAGAZINE "The DVD version of 'Put the Needle on the Record' is a refreshingly slick, sober, and balanced look at electronic dance music.." HUSTLER MAGAZINE "The best of its genre."– GEN ART "Great mix of history, pop-culture, anthropology and energy. The fact that it is international gives it unprecedented influence."EDMONTON SUN "The strength of the documentary, is that it deciphers certain aspects of the dance scene without losing the intangible qualities that have made it a global phenomenon." – HONOLULU STAR ADVERTISER "Jason Rem's introduction to the world of electronic dance music was as illuminating and immediate as flicking on a switch."– WINNIPEG FREE PRESS "What's refreshing about this doc is the relative absence of clichés. I don't think there's a single reference to illicit drugs in the entire film."
brettster-1 Good, informative documentary films are rare when it comes to electronic Dance music. "Put the Needle on the Record" truly puts the viewer into the EDM scene with a great shooting location (Winter Music Conference in Miami, FL). Not to mention, a nice variety of interviews from DJs and producers, some mainstream and some very underground. This film also gives a nice history lesson about Dance music (more specifically, House music), and the history of the club scene as well. Backed with an awesome soundtrack, this film is sure to please even the smallest Dance music fan. As a DJ myself, this film was very impressive because of the fact that it showed what the scene is truly about, and not the stereotypical hard-drug use that is always associated with the EDM scene.
subliminal-2 This is probably one of the most awful documentaries, representing the electronic music scene. Explaining the history of electronic music and its DJ culture with Miami as a background (WME event) is a horrible mistake. It shows how big of a media hyped, money making circus it all have become. It absolutely doesn't breathe the love for the music. If you want to know about history then try to find the UK Channel 4 'Pump Up The Volume' (Watch it on Google Video!). This doc here is just a 'show off' travel promotion videotape for Miami, trying to tell you that it is the place to be. If you are a classy wanna-be, it might be. I for one, will avoid it like the plague.Just one honorable mention... Josh Wink. Hes the coolest.
