Pumpkin Audience Reviews

mraculeated The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Brennan Camacho Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
Kayden This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
mrbreadtoast-06562 The group which controls Hollywood has long been trying to destroy cultural norms in America. This movie is yet another example of their desire to do so. The athletic white male boyfriend is demonized and made to appear inferior to a mentally & physically disabled male. That's wasn't enough as their goal was also to steer attractive white females to anyone but an attractive athletic white male -- even the mentally & physically handicapped. This movie was a precursor to the current Hollywood trend of pairing white women with male POC, and also demonizing white males. Folks need to open their eyes and not allow themselves or their children to be brainwashed with movies like this that normalize relationships which fail at astronomically high rates. At times Pumpkin felt like a 'B' horror flick as the over-acting and flow of the movie just didn't tie together. It would be one thing for an attractive person to have a relationship with a physically handicapped person, but pairing them with a mentally & physically handicapped person is just going too far, unless it was just a one-time sort of thing. At one point the athletic boyfriend fights the disabled male, and the result and aftermath are predictable and not realistic. The ending was completely absurd. I'm surprised they didn't have a child together like they did in Forest Gump.
sarahburris97 I am so confused on how I feel about this film. It had good parts, sad parts, happy parts, and just plain out cheesy bad parts. I give it a 5 because its not bad but its not good either. It's in between. I think for me it was the actors who threw it off for me. But again I'm not sure. This film was special. (No pun intended.) I did however love the story line. It is a touching story. I'm not sure if the director was trying to make it a big ball of confusion on purpose. If so, he defiantly succeeded. Again, still not sure what I'm supposed to be feeling. But it does have me feeling confused. So its got be feeling something at least.
Len9876 Roger Ebert, in the Chicago Sun-Times, gives the movie a very good grade (three-and-a-half stars) and concludes his review by remarking: "Pumpkin is alive, and takes chances, and uses the wicked blade of satire in order to show up the complacent political correctness of other movies in its campus genre. It refuses to play it safe...Mr. Ebert adds: "...there is courage in the performances."I couldn't say it better--and, if Mr. Ebert likes this movie, it's definitely got to be very good. The movie tells the story of how people fall in love for all of the right reasons, or for all of the wrong reasons. It's a matter of making responsible choices, by clearly focusing on love, rather than all of the reasons that detract from it. That is not to say that there won't be ethical dilemmas, in making responsible choices, but an earnest effort to resolve such dilemmas--including economics in the decision- making process--will maximize one's satisfaction. And--including probability in the decision-making process--there will be a good-to- excellent probability for high-quality satisfaction.Because of this, and the courage in the movie's message, I rank the film a 10 out of 10. I added 2 points for doing the right thing, not because of morality, but because of responsible decision-making. There's something positive to be said about muscle, but self-determination adds even more muscle to this movie, and to life's middle-and-end result. This film, more than worthy, is highly recommended.
U_Dub_20 By far the worst movie I've ever seen. This movie took every stereotype known to man kind and tried to dispel it. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that their intentions were paved in gold, but it was just too much. The only thing that kept us watching it was the thought that at some point in time the movie would get better, but nope, never happened. The movie ended and never before had the three of us wished we could have that time back.It would have been one thing if the movie was even remotely believable, but it was so far stretched that even if they had tapered off on some the points they tried to make, it still wouldn't have hit home. Best way to describe it is like applying makeup, the more natural it looks the better, but if it's gobbed on and the lipstick is too red and too thick, you don't want to go near it.
