Pontypool Audience Reviews

Interesteg What makes it different from others?
Matcollis This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
stevelomas-69401 Big ideas are attempted in this somewhat odd and occasionally original take on the viral zombie outbreak. Whilst i would say the first half is close and tense the second half descends into comically absurd action. There is good acting but I was really annoyed by the character of the Dr. and the 'kill is kiss' line.
goldenarrow-99823 "God bug" - mad scientist Dr Mendes Wow! What a pleasant surprise this was.Or rather, what a disturbing, unsettling and downright creepy surprise it was.Never have I seen a 'zombie' film with such little violence and blood. In fact I can't recall any actual violence that I saw, other than poor Laurel-Ann trying too hard to get close to Mazzy. Even when Grant & Sydney have to beat one of the 'conversationalists' to death, we only see them stamping away from just above the victim.Interesting that they are to be called 'conversationalists' rather than 'zombies' according to director Bruce McDonald;"There are three stages to this virus. The first stage is you might begin to repeat a word. Something gets stuck. And usually it's words that are terms of endearment like sweetheart or honey. The second stage is your language becomes scrambled and you can't express yourself properly. The third stage you become so distraught at your condition that the only way out of the situation you feel, as an infected person, is to try and chew your way through the mouth of another person." Interview with Bruce McDonald I accept this but only to a certain extent. From stage one to two it's a credible step. But from scrambled words to eating faces is one biiiiiiiiiig leap!As is often the case with a good film, it got me thinking. The idea that a virus (or whatever you want to call it) can be transmitted through words is really novel but how did it originate....?Wonder if it's not biological/chemical weapons that whoever is the US's current number one enemy possesses but a toxic vocabulary?Or maybe nobody has yet mastered it and the Pentagon are working on it. They will have me 'removed' for going public and blowing the whistle on their little scam.
Bee Bumble Loved this film ,the acting is cool especially the lead roles. This could easily be a stage play, and should ! Original in its builds beautifully with some clever humour that doesn't take away the horror of the situation they are in. Stephen McHattie is the cool Disc Jockey trying to keep his cool, and his facial expressions (acting) make this very watchable. Clever dialogue and a fast script. A horror film with imagination (yours) One of the best films I've seen, how did i overlook this from 2008 ? Anyway watch it,it's good. No spoilers here, just a recommendation to take a look at this gem . I've given this a film 9 because it's the best film I've seen so far this year, and the fact I watched it twice over two nights, which I've not done in along time.
puppyrevenge Sorry, have i watched the same film as the other reviews. This film is dire. Apart from pretty poor acting from everyone especially the doctor (who is ridiculous) the concept is utterly stupid. Leaving aside the fact that zombie films in general are fantasy when the "reason" for the "outbreak" is revealed i was like. What? Seriously. Is this a joke? Speaking of which, it isn't the slightest bit funny. I don't know what this amusing film Pontypool is. The dialogue is so bad with all the reports and news going out of it's way to be as descriptive as it can and therefore not in the slightest bit real. It sounds like it was adapted fro a radio play. A good percentage of reviews say more or less the same thing's and i absolutely disagree will all of them. I almost turned it off but there was 20 minutes to go so i stuck it out and the ending IS EVEN WORSE. One of the worst films i have ever seen, zombie (whatever)or otherwise. I don't know how anyone agreed to have this film made. I no it's supposed to be "different" but you can't make it different by thinking of the first stupid thing that comes into your head and go with it even though it makes no logical or scientific sense, again, leaving aside the genre in general. So disappointed and very confused with the other reviews.
