There are women in the film, but none has anything you could call a personality.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

For being a direct to DVD rip off of a more popular, more polished film, this movie has quite the following. And for good reason. All the things that the "Paranormal Activity" films have failed to grasp, this movie grabs onto firmly. We have a family, the Finley's, being attacked, or at first just bothered, by an unseen spirit. What does this spirit want? They aren't sure. At first they think it's their deceased father and husband trying to communicate. But then it does, well, unmentionable things to the daughter Samantha, and the family becomes more confounded.Through a series of clips filmed with home cameras, the demon knocks crosses off of walls, turns on appliances, and basically straight up tortures the hell out of Samantha. At one point, it walks on the ceiling, leaving footprints in its wake.My favorite thing about this movie is that it acknowledges that this entity can act without a camera pointed at it, as it follows Samantha and her mom to a hotel, and we only hear about the demon's actions. We don't' see them, and while some people want visual stimulation, I'll trade that for a story that scares me.And this one does. To the max. While the ending may be a bit too much for my tastes, and the very odd voyeuristic actions of the brother Thomas seem out of place, this movie has far more of a dreadful feeling than any of the Paranormal Activity sequels to date, although it still pales in comparison to the original. I'd take this one as a nice little companion piece to Paranormal Activity. Watching them back to back will leave you unsettled, especially with the excessively dark ending of this one. _________For all of the Horror Banana reviews, visit http://morozov924.hubpages.com/

Paranormal Entity (2009) ** (out of 4) The Asylum's "mockbuster" of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY has a brother (Shane Van Dyke) filming his sister (Erin Marie Hogan) and mother (Fia Perera) when strange things start to occur. You know, you have to love the cheapness of The Asylum. For very little cash, very little time and very little talent they manage to make all sorts of dough with this generic little films. This one here is actually much better than the rest of their "found footage" films but at the same time it's very weak when compared to the other movie and its biggest sin is the fact that it's not scary at all. It's pretty funny to watch this movie and see how closely it comes to PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. There are several scenes that are nearly the same with the only difference being that here it's not scary. I personally loved the other film but as a film buff I'm curious to see the rip-offs. For the most part I thought it was technically a good movie. The cinematography was nice for this type of movie and I thought there were a few good ideas sprinkled across the picture. I won't spoil exactly what's doing the hauntings but this was a nice item that is sadly wasted in a not-so-good movie. I also thought Erin Marie Hogan was good as the sister and her nude scene towards the end did at least wake me up. The highlight of the film? The speech given by mommy when the son asks her and the sister to go to a motel while he stays at the house with the ghost. Priceless.

When I saw the average rating of just 4.3, I didn't expect much of the film, and after watching it, I am impressed at the film! I'm not sure why there is such a negative response to the film, considering that it was meant to be a spin-off of Paranormal Activity. As a horror lover, I could honestly say that I liked this much more than Paranormal Activity as the film didn't hold back with the disturbing and spooky scenes, and the intensity of the film really began in the middle through to the end, rather than starting at the end. I say if you do enjoy the Paranormal Activity series, try this film and give it a chance, granted it isn't a high budget film, but it impressed me and it really does make you feel uneasy watching it, which in my opinion, is one of the major goals to a successful horror movie.

The first time I tried to watch this movie I turned it off within the first 5 min of it. I decided to watch it again and through the whole thing this time. This movie not only was uninteresting it was stupid. It was so horrible it was laughable! This is not only like PA it is just as funny. Though it being so horrible I don't think it doesn't even deserve a rating. Other than me typing this only one thought crosses through my mind when watching this is YAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even think of enough lines to actually be able to post this review. If you wish to watch this movie my say on this is DON'T! I'd rather hit my head on the wall then watch this movie. Also if this gets posted I am surprised since I'm sure it's so negative that it won't.
